Trail Reports

2017-2018 season

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Ungroomed, but amazing. It is April 15 and this was best skiing within an hours drive of Madison all season. 4+ inches of fresh thick snow made for great striding (too deep and heavy for skating). I used rock skis, but easily could have used my A skis. 100% coverage on all trails, no bare spots. Go get it if you can!

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Got out on Fern Dell and Turtleville. I took my B skis and skied a lap, and then swapped them for my A skis because the trail was in very good shape. A bit of debris, but not much to worry about. Just an amazing day of skiing and pretty fast!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Got out this afternoon and did Fern Dell and Turtleville. The grooming is better than the past few years, relatively flat, but still some of the trenches in short stretches. But don't get me wrong, it is overall good skiing, especially since this is our first skate skiing all winter. Some dirt spots coming through but generally if careful should be able to use your best skis. Some soft spots. Hopefully the next grooming will really set it up.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Very good conditions. All trails packed for skating and tracked for classical. Some grass/dirt showing through the classical tracks but nothing that couldn't be avoided.
