Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 18    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Afternoon
Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The trail was groomed today. Conditions are good but there are some soft spots. It looks like one more day of normal conditions before the weather changes. This is the last time the trails will be groomed this year. We have a very good base so there could be some nice spring skiing conditions in the future. Timing is everything when there are freezing nights and warm days so give it a go on a warm afternoon.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The entire trail was packed this afternoon. The East Side and the "non-hilly" portions of the West Side were tracked. It appears that the next few days will be normal winter skiing conditions so you might want to get out for a last "normal" ski. After a cold night conditions should be great. It is likely that we will not groom again as grooming in warm temperatures just does not work with our equipment. Remember that Spring skiing can be great so give that a try.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The ski trail was groomed this morning. Conditions today should be great. No ice and full deep tracks. The tracks appear firm but could be a little soft as they have not had much time to set.

Morning
Observation
Snowmobilers wiped out some of the ski trails on the east side (the trail connected to parking lot). Looks like they came in thru a logging road onto the ski trail, then headed to the 1 mile loop, and down that 1 mile loop trail (as far as I could see down it). Real bummer because trails were groomed just a couple days ago!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The trail was packed, leveled, and tracked today. Things should set up nicely with low temperatures so conditions should be very good. Since we have to use equipment that does not have a track lifter in these heavy snow conditions, you will find some areas tracked where they usually are not and some areas where there are no tracks where there normally would be. Not a big deal but slightly different than normal. I would like to give a big thanks to Steve Chandler for packing the trails and to Tom Wheeler for clearing out the parking lot today as he has done all year.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed the trails late Friday afternoon to break up the glaze in the tracks and level out clumps of snow that fell from tree branches. Conditions should be very good Saturday. During the warmup over the next few days the trail is likely to be icy while temperatures are below freezing. In my experience, in weather conditions like those upcoming, waiting a few hours after the temperature gets above freezing will give the best conditions. Be aware there is some tree litter on the trails,.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed the trails this afternoon to cover up some of the tree litter and clumps of snow that fell off the trees.  The squirrels have been busy cutting Hemlock branches so while the litter is reduced it is not gone; however, the clumps are gone.  The tracks look good for the most part considering how hard the base is. There will be moonlight ski on Saturday evening, February 4th.  Meet at 7:00 pm at the parking Lot on Duck Lake Road.  Skiing by 7:10 pm.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed the trails early this evening. With the small amounts of snow we received the last few days the trail groomed up nicely. If appearance means anything, conditions should be as good as they can get. Full deep tracks everywhere and no tree litter.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
After a visit to Pioneer Creek trails, we strided part of the east loop here, since it appeared to have been groomed this morning. It was a fun single-track trail through mixed hardwoods and gently rolling hills. A solid track made for a fun ski experience. We hope to return to ski the other trails here in the near future.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed the East Side Trails this morning and the West Side Trails late this afternoon. With the new snow tracks are deep and very little tree litter is visible. The trails were slightly soft but should freeze up nicely overnight. Conditions should be very good or better. With the fresh snow it is beautiful on the trails.
