Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Best classic tracks in the Rochester area. So far the tracks are holding up well with the warm weather. Skate deck looked good but was getting beat up by fat tires and walkers.

Very good skiing today. Skated and also hopped in the classic track regularly as both were great. Groomed Yesterday. Thanks park staff and groomers.

I skated a 5 mile loop at 11:00 am and conditions were excellent. A bit soft because it was just groomed and starting to warm up. The classic track was being reset and it looked great. Thanks to the groomer(s).

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The multi-use trails were groomed today and classic track was re-set. The skate lane has been combed out and is still recovering from the warm temps, but is decent. This week will prove a bit tough again if temps remain warm. We will do our best to maintain it.

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I freestyle-skied 6.5 km, then classic skied 11.5 km. The freestyle track has been recently groomed. It is somewhat uneven, however and there are also icy patches where extreme caution is needed. There is an excellent classic track over about 90% of the trail. I found classic skiing to be much more enjoyable than freestyle skiing today. One of the photos is of a fairly treacherous, shaded part of the track that is icy and very uneven. The other 2 photos are of sections of the trail where both the classic track and the skate deck are in excellent condition.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The multi-use trails at Chester Woods Park were groomed today and classic track was set. With all the rain we had this week there still are a few wet spots on the trail.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The main loop near the parking lot was recently groomed and was a bit soft in spots. The outer loops and outline trails had not yet been groomed. It was fairly uneven and could probably use another 3-6 in of snow base. A few areas where the groomer wheels cut in made for some icy spots. But trails were of course still beautiful and provided good skate skiing! No classic trails cut in at this time.

Skiing conditions are very good. Just groomed today after new snow last night. Classic track set on most of big loop but not set yet on connecting loop from parking area.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Trails were groomed recently. Still soft 1" to 2" covering from drifting and light snow last night, but you can still get a good glide and a very good workout. Some areas have a few sticks and such, but nothing you can't avoid easily, so you can still bring your good skis if you want. I brought B skis because it was the first time I was out there this year, and was surprised if not thrilled at how nice things were. Some of the smaller lesser used trails are not groomed, but everything that matters is:) Fairly stiff west wind heading out to to far west loop before you get some protection from the woods, so be prepared to work hard to get some heat into you at the start. Several classic skiers out as well, and they seemed to be doing well with the classic tracks that are still fairly nice.

The multi-use trails at Chester Woods Park were groomed (combed out) for the first time this season, after this mornings 7+ inch snowfall. The snow is sticky and conditions are fair. Classic track was not set.
