The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.

Great conditions on Birkie Trail as I skied south of OO. See photo of newly groomed trail with firm skate deck and perfect classic tracks. Looking great for the Birkie!

Firsthand: Both

Skied from OO to Boedecker. Beautiful bluebird skies and sparkling snow blowing down off the trees. Skate trail was packed perfectly across the deck with a layer of new snow skied-in, except for a remaining strip of loose snow along the non-tracked side. Classic tracks were well formed and consistent on both classic and skate trails.

Great grooming and good (to very good) skiing conditions on the Birkie less than a week away from Birkie week. Skate deck was firmer and glide was better than expected given all the recent snowfall, thanks to the expert grooming team. Skied Mosquito Brook TH to OO TH and back, felt a little tacky the last 10k, either my training is lacking or didn't wax correctly for new snow conditions.

Skied classical from Mosquito Brook to the Gravel Pit. After 10 inches of snow yesterday, was amazed at the trail...groomers did an amazing job. A wonderful afternoon of skiing.

Just got to Seeley, it was getting late and wanted a quick hour of classic and didn't feel like climbing a bunch of hills. Heard the Easy Strider loop was groomed at OO trailhead and it was beautiful. It's a lovely little classic-only trail with a couple loops through the woods just east of the building. Pretty flat and not very long but nice tracks and scenery. Thank you, Ned!

This afternoon I skied from Mosquito Brook to highway 77 and back. The skate deck is surprisingly firm considering how much snow the trail has received lately. There were two full depth classic tracks all the way to Fish Hatchery but no further. The trail is groomed to it's full race width now so there are a few spots along the outside edges that give way a little but, all things considered, it was another great day on snow.

Mid-day I skied classic (waxless) south from OO. That trail was freshly groomed after 7 inches of snow yesterday, and was in excellent condition. Great loype, you bet. When I left (mid-afternoon) the trails north of OO hadn't yet been groomed, nor had the lighted loops at OO.

Skied Mosquito Brook TH to Gravel Pit. Trail was freshly tracked. Skate deck may be a tad soft, trail was fantastic. A little slow with new snow, but should be amazing for the weekend. Hats off to the grooming team!

Observation
As of noon on Friday Birkie Ridge is not groomed. PreBirkie skiers planning on skiing to the start at OO from Birkie Ridge parking might want to factor in 8" deep for the 3Km up to the skate trail. [ Birkie crew has sent groomers out to that segment, hope to have completed by 6:30 pm Friday evening -- Ed. ]

I had a very snowy ski from OO to Firetower and back today. No tracks set but that was expected considering how hard it was snowing today! About 6-7 inches on deck surface which I classic skied on most of the trip. I saw the Pisten Bullys start up at 5pm with lots of packing to do before all the activities this weekend.
