Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 16 to 23 of 23    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Wednesday, January 23, 2019
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
About an inch or more of new fluffy snow on top of an uneven, icy base. It is skiable and better than before, but we need more snow to make it good. Use caution and think snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Poor conditions. There is 100% snow cover, but the trails are very rough and icy! The base is solid - we only need a little snow to be back in business. The trails are open, but don't expect good skiing at this time.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Unfortunately, the snow we were hoping for last night came as rain and mixed precipitation. We still have a snow base, but expect very icy conditions until we receive more snow. We don't think we have enough snow right now to re-groom. Think Snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The trails are still definitely skiable and I had a good ski this afternoon. But they are getting rough and icy in many areas. We are hoping for more snow before we groom again. Think Snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We were pleasantly surprised to find a uniform base and dusting of fresh snow with great glide on New Year's Day. Went out on Odden's Ridge with touring skis, and really enjoyed gliding down the longer downhill runs. There was no possibility of skiing in Hudson, but when we reached Cumberland we had crossed into the snowy Northwoods. If you can be happy with snow and the opportunity to ski some loops without scraping gravel, we enthusiastically recommend these trails at least until the next thaw.

Found the going to be very lumpy and bumpy nearest the trailhead. We eventually reached some stretches of trail that were actually pretty nice. Definitely far from a flat firm skate deck, but very skiable. A fair number of branches and sticks buried in the trail and maybe a few spots where I wasn't sure if I hit a stick, leaf, or maybe found some dirt poking through. So I'm saying its not so great and great. I've been spoiled with perfect manufactured and groomed trails so in comparison it was rough, but it was so good to be out in the woods on the natural snow for a change. No classic tracks set.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All of Timberland Hills and the Lighted Trail are now packed. There is not enough snow to set tracks. The trail is in fair condition with some icy spots and rough spots. Come enjoy what we have.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
So far we have packed the Lighted Trail (lights are on), Short Loop, and part of the Engagement Loop. Tracks are not set. Skiing is fair and better than we expected, so we plan to do some more grooming this evening. There are some icy spots and rough spots to watch for. A good base to start with, and it's skiable.
