2016-2017 season
Reports 5 to 14 of 14    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The skate deck was skiable but getting very thin in areas and may not last long. Had to take my skis off a couple times. There were grass blowouts in the normal locations under pine trees and etc. Made it from 28th Street to Browns PT(yellow) via green and Blue trails. Also went on Red trails for a little while. Billings Dr to Browns PT was challenging because of ATV tracks. Thanks groomers. It looks like they attempted to groom but it must have to thin and warm to keep going.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skated Green, Blue, Purple and Red. Looked at the Yellow but didn't have enough time to make the loop. For the most part skating was good. The classic tracks were just refreshed and looked decent There is not a lot of snow but the groomers had just been around and did their best. Green and Red where firm but warming/softening up. Purple and Blue were softer but okay. So, get out and enjoy.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Skated outer green late Sunday afternoon. Conditions were good considering how little snow we have. Grass is visible in some spots and there's a fair amount of debris in the usual spots under the pine trees. Hills were in good shape (not icy).

The grooming staff have reported this afternoon that all trails have been groomed for skate skiing. They indicated that we will need a little more snow before they can set track.

Beautiful skiing through with warm breezes floating in the air. The kind of day when you can smell and feel warm air on the trail. Skiing is still great, so get out there while we have it. I skied all the way out the point to the St. Louis River (yellow loop), and snow coverage was still more than 95%.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Epic corduroy conditions on the trails this afternoon. Skated on virgin corduroy for much of my ski (purple loop). Also skied the green loops and blue loop. Grooming was excellent everywhere I went. Sun was shining. Only five dollars for access to this big piece of heaven. One note - signage is lacking, so be prepared to ski longer than expected plan in case you have trouble figuring out how to get back to the parking lot, like I did.

With the snow last night the groomer was out and had most of the trails groomed for skate only due to the shallow snow depth. The yellow loop was not groomed but most of the others were done. As it was thin there is an occasional easily avoidable dirt clump etc. It's smooth, wide and felt silky so it was very nice. Worth the short drive from the Duluth area and the $5 to ski there!

Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
Unfortunately, still not enough snow in Superior to allow for grooming. The ground is covered with a thin layer of hard crust.
