[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Re-groomed Hiram today since the old track was pretty chewed up on the hills and there were many oak leaves in some places. Since we have not had any new snow for awhile I had to breakup the old hard pack enough to reset the track and try to cover up some of the leaves. In most places the track is set to the full depth of the track setter and fairly well formed. In some places there are many Oak leaves mixed into the snow but it will take more snow to get them all covered up. With the cold temps the track and pole deck should set up firm overnight. There are a few scattered small twigs and of coarse the oak leaves in the track so it's your call if you want to use your good or B skis.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Conditions this afternoon were fairly good overall and made for some fun skiing. There are many scattered leaves and needles in some areas but it did not cause a problem at least today. The icy crust is broken up and mixed in with the soft snow to make for good glide and a fast ski but still plenty of grip for the kick. The track formed pretty shallow in some places but overall it is deep enough to hold the skis. The track is firm and the deck is firming up for better pole plants in most places.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Re-groomed Hiram this afternoon to try to breakup the icy crust from the freezing rain on Sunday night and to try to cover up some of the oak leaves. The old Tidd Tech Trail Tenderizer used at Hiram can't dig deep into the base to bring up fresh snow but it was able to breakup the icy crust and covered up some of the oak leaves. It will take more snow to completely cover them up. The track is not as well formed as I would like due to having to drive faster than ideal because the snowmobile was overheating. The overall condition now is fair to good.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied at Hiram this afternoon after we had a light dusting of snow this morning. The track and deck are covered in an icy crust but the little dusting of snow this morning covered up the ice just enough so hard kick wax worked and didn't have to use klister. The strong winds last night and today brought down many leaves and sticks. The trail is also some what rutted up after the weekend traffic and the ruts are now frozen solid. The trail can be skied but conditions are poor because of all the ice and forest litter.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skied Hiram this morning while it was still below freezing. The track is a little shallow in some places where the track- setter was not able to get to its full depth. There are some lumpy spots in the track from clumps of snow falling from the pine trees as it warms up. Scattered forest litter but not bad enough to be a problem. The track was fairly firm and was not icy yet. The deck is a little soft in places so pole plants go to deep sometimes. Overall it was very good skiing this morning with plenty of glide and good grip for the kick.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Set classic track this morning before temps got to warm. Turned out fairly well just some ragged edges in places. Scattered Oak leaves as usual but not enough to be a problem. We will have to see how trail conditions hold up but right now it's good skiing. Get out and enjoy.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
With the 2 inches of new snow yesterday I made a couple of passes to repack the trail yesterday afternoon. Due to circumstances I did not make the final pass and set the track for classic skiing. I attempted to set the track this morning in the subzero temps. The snow setup to hard for the track setter to work. At this point, its packed wide and firm with ok corduroy. There are some scattered leaves and pine needles but overall the snow is pretty clean. If you don't mind classic skiing without a track it should still be ok or if you like to skate ski it would be just fine. A track will be set again when conditions allow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Hiram ski trail got it's first grooming of the season today after 12" of snow the past couple of days. The entire system is packed and track set for classic skiing. After the wind last night there are scattered oak leaves and some pine needles but over all the trail is in very good condition. The parking lot was not plowed as of 5:30 PM today. Get out and enjoy all the new snow while conditions are good.
