Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Overall conditions are outstanding. The new snow post thaw has done wonders. I skated in the morning and classic skied in the afternoon. There are a few icy spotst on the trails that can be easily avoided. As usual the grooming is excellent!
Without question the classic only trails are some of the prettiest in the area. My favorites are White Pine and Wolf Track.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Best skiing conditions ever. Even after 8" of fresh snow the day before, on Thursday the skating had amazing glide and edging and the tracks were super fast. There were about as many striders as skaters. It was even better on Friday with the pleasant 20 degree temp. The scenery was awesome with the snow-laden evergreens. Their chalet is always nice to rest and converse with other skiers.
By Friday noon, the parking lot was almost full and a greyhound bus had arrived. The warm spell and rain had hurt most other skiing destinations we checked out.

Conditions: Fantastic! Recent snow provided good coverage over the old base after the melt down.
Skied ABR the last three days. Lots of classic and skate kilometers in mid-winter condition. Well worth the trip.

Grooming
Trails today had super reviews, firm cold dry powder, flat and smooth. We have 5-6 groomers out pretty steady since the 10 inches of new snow getting the trails back in tip top shape. Much of today was spent patching the Highlands up from the thaw and flooding of the Montreal River. The groomers spent some serious calories patching and regrooming today. We hope to have the Highlands added into the mix for Friday or at the latest Saturday. We are skiing 40k of excellent trail conditions.

Grooming
We are back to excellent skiing with the cold temps and the 8-10 inches of new snow! We are grooming 55k and skiing about 40k today. We hope to be skiing all 70k by the weekend. The warm temps put a lot of water in the Montreal River that is our western boundary. When the river floods it makes slush in a few areas such as Sulos Loop, the Highlands entrance and a 4 foot stretch of Jack Pine. The Highlands entrance is freezing tonight, we packed the Highlands today and it is is great shape other than the entrance. The Sulos section and Jack pine should be frozen by Friday. We are skiing on 40k today that is in excellent shape and can be skied with your best race skis (12 inches of base). He hope to have another 30k open for the weekend!

Conditions: Great ski conditions still available.
Despite the melt down and rain, there are good ski conditions in Ironwood. With ~100 inches of snow before the warm up, and new snow falling, there is still a deep base so you can safely use good skis. Today, trails had been regroomed early and there was already several inches of new snow on the deck, with snow falling. The melt and rain has lead to flooding in low areas so Sulo's loop and the outer loops accessed by it have not been re groomed.

Grooming
Second shift groomers are just coming in and the trail is looking pristine. We are now grooming and skiing 30 k of trails and we will continue grooming and freezing the other 40 k of lower loops by the river Wednesday. The base is very thick, just a few wet areas and we can get all 70 k open again.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good.
Trails are back in good shape and getting better as Eric was starting to groom when I left at 4:45 pm. Skating was quite good but slow due to 2-3 inches of new stuff on top of the deck, the same stuff that made the setting gorgeous. I used race skis with no issues. River is very high, so Sulo's trail is closed as well as other trails over marshy area.

Grooming Scheduling
Trails are open again on Tuesday at 9 AM. It is 24 degrees and we have received 2-3 inches of snow so far as it continues to snow lightly. The groomers are out. So far we have 18 k groomed for skating and 24 km trackset. The trails groomed and open have a 8-12 inch base and no bare spots. We will groom more as the wet areas freeze up and the river level goes down.

Grooming Scheduling
We are closing Monday for the day to let the temps cool down and will resume grooming and skiing Tuesday at 9 AM. We still have plenty of snow but are going to close for Monday since the skiing will not be the safe and top notch conditions we are used to here at ABR.
