This is some of the best groomed trails we have skied! What a gem of a ski area. First time visit looking to do some skate skiing as we were passing through. MN ski pass required. Temps in the upper teens with a slight NW wind. Freshly groomed with outstanding corduroy. They could use some more snow to hide some twigs sticking up in spots but not necessary. Groomer must be a skier because the trail was perfectly scratched for a flat fast incredibly fun skate deck but also groomed for classic on the right. Very wide trails with the majority being 12-18 feet. Parking area with clear map of trails, warming house and out house on site. Very well used and maintained ski area with an open house every Sunday afternoon. From warming house we skied out staying to the right to do the full course. Easy to understand signs at all junctions. On return to the warming house went a second round but stayed to the inside to do the Troll Trail. Very great ski worth the drive as a destination. Thank you for such a great ski experience!

Conditions are fair. Three days of above freezing temps have left the trails generally icy and thin in spots. Lillie's beginner loop is fine, and the first and last parts of Eagle are also ok, but the south side of Eagle is rough. Troll has had much less skiing on it, so is not as bad as Eagle, but still has steep, icy hills with turns. If you ski the hills, be prepared to control your speed on scrappy skate lanes. We saw lots of boot prints on the hills of Eagle yesterday! Groomers can't do anything with this until we get more snow.

Soaring Eagle is in excellent condition, and groomers redid the classic and skate lanes. There is also a new showshoe trail this year, with a short loop and about 3/4 mile longer trek through the woods. Trail has a 3" packed base, and has just a couple of thin spots, generally very nice conditions for the weekend.

Arrived around 12:30 PM with temps 32F degrees. Freshly groomed skate deck with tracks set throughout the system. A few areas in the tracks where debris was present, but no problem getting around them. Beautiful trails that are well maintained, and a very inviting warming house. Worth the trip from Roseville to meet my son who was driving down from south of Bemidji.

Excellent conditions on an amazing day. All trails groomed Friday for skating (all) and classic (all except troll). Base is 3" and we had 4" new snow last week and 2" and snowing today.

All trails are open and in good condition for today's open house. Tracks were groomed today on Lillie's, Lake, and Eagle trails, not Troll. All trails are packed for skating. Surface is mostly clean, with a few twiggy or grassy spots in classic and skate lanes.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic skied again in some light touring skis, which worked much better on the somewhat shallow tracks on Eagle/Lillie's. Lake is rolled, and otherwise in good shape except for one grassy spot under the balsams. Trail also looks generally good for skaters, untracked but skiable classic. Photos are just outside the lodge, on Eagle trail and also the new snowshoe trail that has been blazed through a red pine plantation. There are more tracks of snowshoe hares than of snowshoe humans, though.

Firsthand: Classic Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Soaring Eagle trails are all packed and rolled, 2" base with 6-8" snow depth in the area. Lillie's Loop (beginner) and Eagle (inter.) are fair to good, and tracked for classic/skate. Troll and Lake are still untracked, as base is marginal. Classic tracks are good on Lillie's but a little shallow on Eagle. There are some areas of debris, twigs, or grass poking through, but most of the trail is well-covered. Could use B skis in most areas with care. Open house will begin Sunday, January 7 at 1 PM, with free classic ski rentals available. MN Ski pass is required, though, and is available online or wherever fishing/hunting licenses are sold.

Skied today at 2pm. There was fresh snow from the night before, but groomers hadn't been out since Dec 22 (according to their log). The snow was light and fluffy, but brush was sticking up through the snow throughout the trail. Both classic and skate were difficult because of the non-groomed trail, but it was a gorgeous day to be out! With fresh snow on all of the trees, and sun shining, it was lovely to be in Soaring Eagle's backwoods trails.
