2018-2019 season
Reports 21 to 28 of 28    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
We've been skiing in the stadium since before Thanksgiving. For the past few weeks the trails have been rolled in some have been tracked with the Ginzu including Northern lights, Summit, Bronze, Silver, Cedar, and Gold. I have been both diagonal starting and skating all week. Northern lights has had many of the lights replaced and pretty well lit! Coverage is good with some thin spots in limited uneven parts of trails.

[ Good skis ]
Very good skiing at Giants Ridge today. Looks like the groomer was out either last night or this morning. Silver, Gold and Cedar trails all newly groomed with fresh corduroy. Bronze and Summit trail (groomed a couple days ago) are starting to get skied in, but the classic track is holding up. Well worth the short trip from Duluth.

[ Good skis ]
Good conditions at Giants Ridge. All of Summit Trail and Bronze were freshly groomed with a nice (shallow) classic track. Silver, Gold and Laurentian had an inch of light powder over recently groomed trail, just as fast as the newly groomed trails. Skate deck has the typical early-season "undulations", but you can safely wear your good skate skis. Would probably use B skis in the classic track, although the occasional dirt/grass is easily avoidable.

Was it flat? Not really. Was it perfect? Nope. But I'll tell you what: Overall the Ridge is pretty awesome right now! It felt great to be on real snow and actually going somewhere. What's it worth the drive? It sure was.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Fair conditions at Giants Ridge. We have 44 KM of trail that is open. We currently have a 2-3" base on all open trails. All open trails have been rolled and packed, and Saturday we set shallow tracks on the Bronze, Summit, and Northern Lights with the ginzu. Decent conditions for early December.

It looks like the Ridge got several inches of new snow this week. Conditions are good and improving. Trails were being groomed throughout the morning. Tracks were being set on several trails. They were shallow but nice.

[ B skis ]
After seeing a trail report from John J only days old and deciding it was worth an investigative ski discovered it indeed worth the drive. Skied parts of the Silver, Summit, Gold, Bronze and the Cedar. It appeared some had been very recently groomed and those were quite good while others had several inches of powder that covered a rolled trail and was skied in. No classical tracks but every trail I skied was very good for skating.

Took a chance and drove up to the Ridge. I was very pleased! The trails were recently rolled with an inch of new snow on top or were in the process of being groomed. No tracks but skiers were skiing tracks in. A little bumpy but complete snow coverage. Temps stated below freezing, a condition remain great for December 1.
