New Reports Report Requests

Notes

Maintained by Elk River Nordic Nordic Ski Club, these trails have become a hot-spot for fantastic skiing in the North Metro. Trails are largely wooded over rolling terrain, but some sections have good climbs and descents. Trails consist of several interconnected loops and are aptly named--be sure to check out the "Top-of-the-World" and "Gravity Box" as well as "Wash Pond Flats" to the NE of the biathlon range. There is not a warming shack, but at least one port-o-potty at the main parking lot. Primarily groomed for skate (not always tracked for classic).

Trail Reports

2017-2018 season

The non paved trails are holding up well. The 2 times that the screens have been over (at about Mach1) have done nice job of flattening the trail without bringing up any dirt. Caution is needed on the paved trails any south and west facing hills are only covered with a dusting of snow. If you hug the outside edges next to the grass you can slide by without scraping the pavement.

Wow, these trails are fun and in great shape! My new local favorite (end of season when the body is ready to attack those punchy hills). Like others have said - don't bother with the last section when you pop out into the prairie. I didn't realize where I was and ruined my A skis on the lightly covered asphalt. It's bad and very hidden behind a hill. If you can avoid that I wouldn't hesitate with your good skis.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Eagle 17 and Theodore just finished their grooming run with the light screens for our weekend skiing pleasure. Rumor has it that they may have set a new 2018 grooming run? How fitting! Expect good conditions should ER be your ski destination. Not enough snow depth to set tracks. Take care on the Prairie Loop as the pavement is peaking through in a few spots. Enjoy!

What a joy. One of the great things about Woodland- beside some of the best trails around- is that the groomer reports are always accurate. Trails were smooth and fun. The new snow on top was silky. The only reason for the B ski rating was a scrape down to the bike path on the last stretch to the parking lot.

Grooming

5/8" dusting of new snow on top of the newly flattened trail should make for some fine skiing. We will ski this in until the next screening run on Friday evening. Enjoy!

Fabulous fresh snow conditions. So nice to get out on these trails again. Fresh soft cold snow still had rilling marks from rolling this past weekend. Just beware of other trail users of four legged kind. They seem to be very friendly and enjoying the trails also.

Three new inches. Refuge Guy and Rookie BR were out with the rollers this evening. The grade and flatter trails are rolled and ready to go. They ran the sleds without rollers on the outer loop to lay own a bonding layer on the slick spots. Lumber Jack and Ancient One are going to make an early morning run on the outer loop with the rollers and join the tree cutting crew after that. Wrong Way should expect decent conditions for her morning ski. Enjoy!

Intermediate to expert skiers only conditions. Although trails 99 % covered, only about 60 % were with loose snow allowing good edge control. Only a few uphills that were hard ice (Peeper Hollow) and any trail sections that are exposed to sun are more ice than snow, but the trails on grass and North Mickey connectors are really pretty good. Want to use caution to avoid hitting deer as much as anything regarding the icy conditions. Saw two herds of 6 to 10 deer again running around the ski trails. The only really strange sight today was Sunday afternoon with only one car in the lot at Woodlands, my car.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The groomers made a run this morning to try and soften up the trail. Conditions are getting very thin and icy in spots. Coming off the X on Bull Snake Run and coming off Maple Hill are icy use caution. Also several of the uphill climbs have ice. I would recommend rock skis. The conditions may not improve until we get more snow.
