Grooming Scheduling
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good to excellent.
Both the 5k and 10k were groomed overnight, and classic tracks reset. Despite heavy usage today, including the Mora H.S. Nordic team and visitors from Texas, Nevada, Nebraska and many from the Twin Cities, the trails and track ended the day in good shape, ready for another great day of skiing tomorrow.
Snowflake will be open until 1:00 a.m. tomorrow, New Years Eve, for those who would like to ski into the new year. Lights on the 5k will be lit until 1:15 a.m. For skiers looking toward this weekend, a reminder that we are open and the 5k lit until 9:00 p.m. On Fridays and 10:00 p.m. On Saturdays. The kidsski program begins this Sunday afternoon, so the chalet will be crowded between 1:00 and 3:30, but they have little impact on the trail skiing. Think snow!

Conditions: Excellent skate and classic tracks.
Really great conditions. Both classic and skate tracks were regroomed overnight and the track condition made for a fun ski before lunch today. Thank you.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Snowing hard at dusk, snow was soft, slow and fun. Could still see the tracks when I started but by the time I finished they were covered.
Great snow, plenty of it. Should be great after next grooming.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Three inches of new, humid snow by mid-day with more on the way.
Great skiing in a snowstorm today. The classic track on the long loop was nice. Skating was also good on both trails and should be excellent after grooming.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 3 inches of snow fell on yesterday and flakes still falling today. There was great coverage on Jane's 5K with good classic tracks. Got faster with every pass. The uneven deck was being smoothed out by groomers and skiers.
20 degress and using RODE multi blue, Great day hitting Snowflake, A worthwhile trip for any City or Southern skiers to get natural conditions.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 2-3 inches of new snow!
Wil and I groomed and set a new track on the 5 and 10k at Snowflake. We are now going out to ski our work. The 5k is in very good to excellent condition. The 10k is still a bit thin in places with some icy spots. The wet heavy snows that we have had are really pulling down the brush and making the 10k trail narrow in spots. All are welcome to bring out a hand saw and cut brush to make the trails wider. :-).

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Good to very good on Janes 5k trail. New snow today is helping the deck and reach time I went around it got better and better, faster and faster.
This is worth the day trip from the cities to ski on natural snow and good trail system. The ski center is very roomy and comfortable for changing clothes and eating lunch.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Very good to good on the 5k...fair to good on the 10k.
Today I brought an international team of four out to work on the trails at Snowflake. We had Rain from China and Will from Colorado shoveling snow onto icy spots on the Special K and Dave from Duluth and Tassilo from Germany grooming the 10k. While grooming the 10k I was reminded of my most recent visit to the barber. The amount of hair on my head makes it really difficult for the barber to do anything stylish with my hair. Such is the case on the 10K. The thin snow made it possible to just do a fair job of grooming. The 10k is thin, soft and has lots of icy spots. The 5k on the other hand is in very good shape. The skate lane is fairly flat and skis well. The classic tracks on the 5k are nicely skied in with just a few icy spots. Best part of the day was going back and skiing the 5k.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good/fair, some ice and debris throughout.
5k and 10k loops are groomed, with surprisingly great snow overall. The 5k loop has seen the most traffic out of the two and is in better condition, with essentially 100% snow coverage, save for a few ice patches. The skate deck is still a little uneven and soft in spots, so expect to catch an edge or two. Classic tracks are minimal, mostly skied in from other users. The Special K section of this loop is in rougher condition compared to the rest of the trail, with multiple large, uneven ice patches that are unavoidable. Overall, truly great conditions considering the season we've had so far. B skis are probably still the safest option, though if you are good at dodging small trail debris A skis can definitely be used on the 5k.

Morning
Grooming
Conditions: Very good skiing!
Wil Chapple and I went out to Snowflake this morning to shovel snow onto the icy patches and then groom the trail. We worked from 7:30-10:30 and got all of the patches on the 4k portion of the 5k trail covered and packed. The skiers who were on the trail as we were working reported excellent skiing. Now we are at home fueling up, changing into ski clothes, gathering up the folks we left and home and are heading out to ski at Snowflake. That is a very satisfying aspect to grooming is that once you are done you can go and enjoy your work.
