Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Finished grooming skate lanes on C/Y/W this evening. Groomed A/B/D this morning. We will continue to groom a portion of the skate lanes each day as long as the weather cooperates(freezing overnight.) We still have a good base, but need some fresh snow to reset classic tracks.

Don't put your skis away just yet! This spring break, instead of going south, we drove north 3 hours, 40 minutes from Sheboygan, WI to Munising, MI. We were rewarded with excellent skate ski conditions at Valley Spur on both Sunday and Monday. Valley Spur has a very deep snow base. However, timing is everything! The skate deck was groomed daily by approx. 9:00 am (corduroy) for great control. Conditions were fast and fun in the morning, slowing in the sunny spots in the afternoon, but still fun. Classic tracks were firm and fast as we occasionally double-poled and skied the long, straight downhills in them, especially where the skate path began to soften. Oh yes, don't forget to apply sun screen!

Excellent skate conditions continue. Every morning lanes are lightly dressed with a ginzu, so skating is as good as it gets. Good edge, solid pole plants on a flat deck. Temps barely over 32F in the day and low teens over night makes for easy grooming of our 18-20" base.

Nothing like spring skiing when the groomers refuse to call it quits. Skating gets no better. Fast without being icy, rows of mostly unused, un-trampled corduroy. You can snow plow down the big hills or take the brakes off and power slide across the deck on turns. It all depends on how fast you want to go. Classic was a bit icy but not bad. You could easily step out of tracks and snow plow down or herring bone up. The weather was sublimely beautiful, low 20's at night and just above or below freezing during the day. Simply put, skiing gets no better. Thank you John and Dan! Hope to see some ski-buds up here this weekend.

Great skiing and great grooming (as usual) at Valley Spur! Thanks to our groomer Dan! With the fresh snow this week the classic tracks were in mid winter conditions. And the sunshine and warm temps were a bonus.

Absolutely beautiful conditions at Valley Spur today. Groomed the entire system before 10 am this morning and it looks a lot more like January than March. Sunshine and snow covered trees makes for some awesome scenery and as always the lodge is open and the woodstove is keeping it warm.

Another Lake Effect Snow event last night and this morning 6-8", it appears. Dan rolled and set track early this morning on entire system. I came in at 3;30 p.m. and rolled and set track on C, Y, and W. So conditions will be excellent all through the weekend. Base close to 2 feet at this point. Come on up. Check out the Irish Challenge on Sunday March 18th. Fun event no entry fee, just a dish to pass.

Today, as yesterday, the conditions here were fantastic. Freshly groomed and tracked trails each day awaited morning skiers. There was even fresh snow from last night groomed in. It was starting to snow again as I ended my ski today. There is a great mix of thrilling down hill runs, rolling hills, and gentle terrain for beginners. This is truly a great place to xc ski. I always look forward to coming here.

We have gotten around 14 inches of snow over the last 3 days and we have been busy rolling, setting new tracks and packing the skate lanes. Trails are very nice right now. Looks more like January than March. Come see for yourself.

Fresh snow fell Tues. thru Thursday so groomers had 6+" to work with on top of a 20" plus base. Both classic and skate were in excellent condition this morning and should hold through the weekend. Come on up.
