Night
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied under the lights and stars Wednesday night. It was family night so there were lots of people out enjoying the trail. Skied the green and blue loop. Skate deck is in top form, still a little washboardy in spots, Phil said they got 3 inches the other day which was the largest snow fall of the season. I put down "B" skis only because some people are a little more particular than I am -- I used my good skis without reservation. There are tracks set on green and blue, they are somewhat shallow and washed out in a few spots but still skiable. Enjoyed a beer and a few laughs with Phil post ski, he said he planned to touch up the trails this morning. Iola is offering some of the best skiing in the area. I have some birkie skiers coming up from Milwaukee for the weekend and they say it's definitely worth the drive.

Skied the blue and green loops. Both were in very good condition considering the small amount of snow. No problems with using B skis. Worth the drive up from the Milwaukee area. Be aware - I think they have high school races on Sunday, Jan 14, starting late morning.

I was amazed at how great the trails were considering how warm it was this week. They had enough new snow following the thaw that it was really nice skiing. Phil and his crew of helpers were out today shoveling snow on any thin spots and blowing all the tree debris off the trail. I wouldn't use your best skis but 'B' skis should be fine.

Pleasant surprise skiing at Iola today. Trail base held up well after light rain most of Thursday, followed by light snow, maybe an inch. Trail was well covered and a little icy between layers but only when strong push off. Used b-skis no problem. Freestyle skied green, blue and black, old tracks still apparent on green and blue trails. All trails were being dragged/corduroy when I left.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails open and packed/snowmobile ginzu groomed with tracks set on green and blue one week ago. 1" of new fluff Saturday eve skied in all day Sunday, full parking lot, youth program had 40+ skiers. Tracks holding up and skating has been progressively getting faster the last number of days. Watching weather for coming week, yet hoping for more snow, we have made the best of shallow base, conditions almost look like midwinter, a real credit to the ski grooming and members who help prep ski trails this fall!

[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
I skied Green loop only due to cold temps. Given the lack of snow, I was surprised at the level of snow coverage on the trail. Very few brown spots and easy to avoid. Trails have been rolled and packed but not enough snow to groom and set tracks. Lots of skiers have been on the trail. Phil's recorded message suggests rock skis and that's probably a good idea.
