Trail Reports

2014-2015 season
Reports 20 to 29 of 32    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Tuesday, January 27, 2015
Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Icy - need more snow.
Practice with the youth ski team on Tuesday evening. They worked on classic on the the lighted hills just behind the shelter, I took a few laps on the lighted loop. There was icy snow cover, and it wasn't impossible to skate, but it was on its last legs without a refresh of snow. Base is set up firm but there was some tricky spots on the downhills without being able to get a good edge for setting a solid turn. Pray for snow!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Fast and icy. 32 degrees and partly cloudy.
Got to Greenbush just before sunset and was able to ski almost all of the trails. Just enough snow to get an edge but the trail could use some snow. A few areas where rocks and roots poking through and ruts were everywhere. Lighted (brown) loop was a blast.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: About 2 inches of new snow had been nicely groomed for skating on the first half of the purple loop, but the snow was soft and slow and there weren't groomed tracks for classic skiing.
I skated at about 2 PM, going from the purple trail to the green trail and back to its re-connection with purple. The purple/green portion had been groomed for skating, but the classic tracks were only intermittent and appeared to have been "skied in" rather than "groomed in. After I got back on the purple trail, that had not been groomed for either skating or classic, but it was ski-able. Not too many bare spots and not too much debris. Pretty decent skiing.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
I went early this morning. The trail condition seemed more like it does in spring. There was people classic and skate skiing. You got to love it to be out there with trail conditions like this. Stay cold.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Poor conditions. Aprox 1" compressed base.
Trail system is mostly covered. Some debris on trail, watch the rocks on downhills. I had a nice classic ski this morning, looks crappy for skating.

Grooming
[ Bare ground ]
Fair to poor. We groomed yesterday with the little bit of light snow we received Thursday. Although the snow set up overnight, rocks, dirt, and leaves are exposed through the thin base. Use rock skis.

Pretty good coverage with a few thin spots on some hills. Would recommend soft flex rock ski.

Not yet groomed as of 3 PM. Very slow ski conditions.

Sunday, January 4, 2015
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Poor. Inch of new snow over frozen ground.
Skied purple and part of the green. Use old rock skis and sit back in anticipation of the occasional rock or gravel. Must ride a flat ski. No problem with crowds and the shelter is cheerier with the new windows.
