Beautiful clean snow today as I skied the purple, green and brown trail. The skate deck is still soft but not as soft as yesterday. The groomers was out as I was skiing.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent for skate. Twice groomed packed to 3 inches over hard base = race skis.
Skated 32K on Brown, Purple and Green between 10 and 12:30. Groomed day before, Green was soft (few skiers) Purple and Brown were skied in more. Groomer started again around Noon and I got to put first traces on some of Purple / Green and it was excellent. Used B skis but could have used race skis. Greenbush magic microclimate and grooming came through again to yield best ever post Birkie skiing.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Great late season conditions.
Considering ski season looked like it was over last week, this new snow is great. Skied purple Wednesday night, skate deck was a little soft, but overall great coverage and should hopefully last the week. Tracks looked good from what I could see.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Purple trail, classic track fair to good Wednesday at 5pm.
There were a few spots where the ground was showing, but not too bothersome. The track was not too firm, so my left ski was sliding down-slope (to the left) which is the reason for the "fair", mostly on the west side. You can use the skate deck as needed, which seemed pretty good. All things considered, very scenic and appreciated. Thanks to the groomer for the March skiing.

Greenbush received about 5 inches of cold dry snow. The trails are groomed but did not set up very well last night. Skating is soft but you can use your good skis. Track is excellent in places and down to bare ground in other places. I would avoid the back side of the purple trail as the tracks are down to bare ground in some places.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Very good, soft snow over a hard base.
Greenbush received about 5" of new snow today. It was groomed for classic and skating this evening. There was a very good ice base under this new snow, so the conditions are very good on all the trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: 2-3" bombproof icy base with loose snow on top, some very thin spots by marsh and powerlines.
Decent skiing thanks to the great grooming (thanks Jeff). Avoid first pine plantation on purple by taking red to purple (too much pine junk). Green and red trails are best. Ski early Saturday, then stay off trails until more snow and cold arrives.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: There is still some pretty good skiing out there. I skate skied on all the trails but the pink today. Most of the trails were groomed twice yesterday but the base is so hard that loose snow is quickly pushed to the side. There is more exposed ice than earlier in the week. Also more debris than earlier in the week. I was still able to ski all the trails without going over bare ground.
Watch the weather closely. It appears there will be a rapid warmup tomorrow. Stay off the trails until it is cold again.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Very good, just groomed so bullet fast with great control.
I started skiing around 10:30 and the groomer was just out. Two trees that fell across Green were removed! I skied Brown, Purple, Green and beginning of Red to cut off some of the pine debris on early Green/Purple section. Some thin spots on far end of Purple but otherwise skiing was great! Super job by volunteers cleaning up trail deadfall and grooming. Still best skiing in SE Wis!

Afternoon

Conditions: Good for skating, fair to poor for classic.
The miracle of the Greenbush micro-climate continues. Good conditions persist with a firm and fast skate deck. Only fair to poor for classic. It was great fun today after Jeff Welsh had scarified. There are a few icy spots, so use caution. Thanks to Jeff, the other groomers and all the volunteers from the Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club who cleared a number of trees that had fallen across the trail as well as a great deal of debris. Appreciation is best shown by paying a daily trail fee or becoming a dues-paying member of the club.
