Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 21 to 30 of 39    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Tuesday, January 24, 2017
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Enjoyable skiing at 35 degrees on 1.1k man-made loop. Mushy on a hard base with OK glide. Compares to average Birkie conditions from 5th wave. Good skis but need cleaning afterward as the NE section has dirty snow. Groomed earlier and skiers reported better conditions earlier.

[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Did Lapham Looper race. The 1.1 man-made loop was surprisingly good considering the 40 degree temperatures. The base is 2.5 feet so it should hold up for a while.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Snowmaking loop was good, but quite soft from the rain and warmth. Felt like skiing in sugar, but had a good ski. The race on Saturday will be tough with warmer temps coming in but coverage is good.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Hotline reported good ski conditions on the man-made 1.1 k loop. At 11am did 16 loops and it was good. By noon it started to get mushy midway on the south climb and slower but still enjoyable.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The entire man-made loop is skiable... there is only one area of concern on the east side but you can ski out onto the Nordic Playground area to get around it... skate skiers just follow along side the classic track as it meanders through it. The skate lane is in great condition considering the warm temps and rain but expect soft/slow snow. Classic tracks were set and are at full depth but soft sides with icy bases so only in good condition all things considered. Trail lights are on until 9pm every night expect Sundays. The Wednesday night ski series will be held tonight and things are looking good for the annual Lapham Loppet on Saturday, an annual fundraiser for the Friends of Lapham Peak.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skiing on the man made snow loop was great. Snowmaking in progress to reinforce some areas, which impacts those trail segments, but otherwise, very good for skate and classic. Don't miss out on this weekend's fantastic conditions.

Night
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Plenty of snow on the 0.7 KM snowmaking loop, with more on the way. Generally fast except where newly made snow has drifted onto the groomed trail. Should be more of the snowmaking loops groomed soon. The "whales" are impressive.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Only the half mile man-made loop open for skiing. There is a decent base on that loop. Enjoyed the Birkie training.

Night
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
The 0.7 kilometers loop of manmade snow is in decent condition. No issues with debris as the trail is all in the open. Regular grooming may help break up the hard packed surface. There is a classic track.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial ]
Only the small man made loop (.7K) is open. The groomer was just tilling it at noon and the surface is somewhat uneven and sugary.
