There are 2 to 3 inches of new snow. A little much for skating without it being groomed but I made it work. It's gorgeous! The skating classic track is really decent.

Excellent skiing, except where there's bare ground on the south slopes. Temps were in the mid to high 20's all day. Snow was soft, even under the fresh 1-2 inches from Friday morning. I skied Skyline Parkway between the two trail segments of Ely's Peak loop since Ely's Peak is plowed.

Still great on the main loop at Magney. Full coverage with good tracks. A couple spots are thin but snow may be coming.

1.5" of fresh powder last night and still covering the trees. 9am. Fantastic skiing. The one bare downhill spot on Bardon still needs some caution, rest is great. Ely peak trail not skiable (plowed for equipment access) from the east loop Skyline junction to the Ely overlook, but you can ski the west loop of the trail to the overlook and it is great. 30F at 10:30, the snow is getting a bit sticky, but still beautiful squeaky snow and still no sun. Classic tracks are still very skiable though getting filled with the fresh snow from last two days. Great Grey owl near the start. Finches feeding on the yellow birches.

Still great skiing at Magney if you skip Bardon's and Eli's Loops. Thanks Duluth Parks for the late grooming this year!

Trail is great. Some rutty spots, but mostly very good and the rutty spots were not hard. The classic tracks looked very good, though I was skating. No bare spots on the back and Bardons loops. 32F, no sun, cool nights. Had 1" of snow last night so was a bit slow, but very nice.
Spirit Mt downhill ski hill was closed!? So come over to Magney and get the cc skis out!

Skied the Main Loop and Bardon's Peak. With limited exceptions the trails are in great shape. Little debris and good coverage. The big hill are Bardon's has lots of bare patches and will require deft footwork to ski down. Some of the climbs on the Main Loop have bare spots but all the descents are great. Heard that Ely's Peak was unsuitable due to plowing the road.

Main loop and Bardon loop groomed today at Magney. Skate deck and classic tracks turned out well with minimal debris on the trail. Really great spring skiing. Get out and enjoy.

We arrived as the groomer was putting the big machine back onto the truck! One other person pulled up at the same time and was pleasantly surprised at his timing. We skied the main loop, Bardon's and the connector to Spirit. Bardon's has two of the bigger hills with open "surprises" partway down so use caution. The only other part that would be dangerous is if you decided to ski Spirit, which is ok but not freshly groomed, and came down the first big hill...you can't see the open stuff until you are upon it and with the speed you'd be at, well, good luck! Ely's Peak is still skiable, they are not grooming it anymore because the road is plowed, you would have to walk across the road. Today is the day to get out and enjoy Magney, it's pretty darn good!

Spring skiing can be just amazing! After last week's wonderful grooming, I had to head back to Magney finding that the conditions did change quite after Saturday's warm weather. The trail is a bit dirty from melting and debri, but has 100% coverage and was still gorgeous, fun and flat (no ruts). One more sunny day and a couple barespots will be forming on the south facing hills (Bardon's Peak in particular was thin). A plow went through across Skyline, so be ready to take your skiis off a couple of times to complete Ely's peak loop. I would recommend "b" skis within the next couple of days due to the dirty snow, but otherwise, absolutely worth the trip!
