We classic skied Piedmont today and it has been very well used in the past 24 hours since it was groomed. The tracks were fast, not icy, just not squeaky snow anymore and they are shallow, maybe an inch or two at most deep. Some of the corners are already becoming a bit disfigured. The tracks are 99.99% debris free. The "in between" areas where you transition from one track to another have already become slippery concrete from the use. If you take "The Plunge" to the end, there is a big hole next to the tracks on the skate deck portion about half way down, just before some random rabbit parts. Pole plants are firm in the classic only areas and soft on the right side of the right tracks in the small skate/classic loop.

First time skiing at this venue and it was great. Well thought out trail system with good flow, especially on the double track classic trails. Perfect sunset colors. Conditions just about perfect except a bit soft for the pole plants so use large baskets!

Remarkably nice conditions despite high winds after yesterday's groom. About 95% intact tracks and corduroy. B skis due to high wind twig debris. Thank you groomers!

Great classic skiing if you have a hardy pal like Tyler Henkels to endure with! Minimal drifting and classic tracks are skiing fantastic. Some branches hanging down and on course otherwise perfect conditions.

The plan was Superior Municipal Forest, but after hearing about four accidents on the bridge already today we opted for Piedmont.
The pole plants were firm once we got away from the "skate" loop, they were rather deep there on the right side. Someone skied in the previously groomed track on the main loop, the side loops were still snow covered tracks which I included a picture of.

"Otherworldly" is the word that came to mind as I toured the Piedmont trails. There's significant tree damage, so it will take some time and work before the trails could be groomed. I was far from the first skier the explore, though. Both the skied-in tracks and the depths of the pole plants exceeded expectations.

Secondhand report on Piedmont indicated great coverage (rock skis not needed) but not yet groomed. In a separate post, the City of Duluth cited a plague of mechanical issues with its three groomers.

There's skiable snow on the Piedmont trails, with skier-made tracks throughout the flatter loops. Beware of the occasional rock, which can be hard to see. Generally the coverage is good, though! Parks maintenance workers were just arriving as I left at the end of the lunch hour. Beware of a downed tree on the section that heads over to the steep hill.
