I classic skied Valkyrie C loop. Nicely groomed, beautiful scenery with snow covered trees. I stepped off the side of the trails to check powder depth, and it's up to my knees! Thanks to the groomers for grooming the C loop this year. I love that loop.

Teuton trails were groomed yesterday for skate and classic. Plenty of snow and very pretty in the woods. Trails are a bit soft and with the cold temps the snow is pretty slow, but great skiing nonetheless.

Skied at dusk. Probably best for classic skiing because there were a couple of inches of soft ungroomed snow on top of the base, so skating would be difficult (but still doable), and I think more snow came after we skied. Classic tracks were nice on both sides. The tracks were solid and people had been out so there was not too much fresh snow in the tracks. Had good glide, and pretty good kick with some Toko blue. Great classic skiing.

Please note- the Forest Service is working with the North Coast Cycling Association (NCCA) under an agreement to allow the use of fat tire bikes and snowshoes on the left half of the trail tread on Loop B of the Valkyrie Trail System this winter. The warming room and chalet are open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. The annual Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest User Pass or $5.00 daily use fee are required to use the ski trails, sledding hill and facilities within the Valhalla Recreation Area.

The Teuton and Valkyrie Trails were rolled and tracked on Tuesday. The very cold temperatures predicted for the next week should help freeze down the base more and set up the tracks. Both parking areas and areas around the chalet, warming room and rest rooms have been plowed. More snow is predicted overnight into Thursday morning. Grooming of the trails will be done once the snow showers have ended.

With the addition of 3 to 4 inches of snow overnight into this morning, the groomer went out to roll the trails to pack the new snow into the trail base. The base is at approximately 5 inches. Just a little more snow is needed to set tracks. With the predicted cold nights over this weekend, the base of the trail should freeze down well. On Thursday late afternoon, the snowplowing contractor went out to plow the main and secondary parking lots. The equipment broke down and is need of major repairs. Unfortunately, snow plowing in the main and secondary parking areas to around the chalet were not able to be completed. Be aware that the ground under the snow is soft and because plowing wasn't completed, there is a good chance of getting stuck if you have a low clearance vehicle and do not have 4 wheel drive. The contractor is working on getting the equipment repaired by Monday so that snow removal can be completed. Please be patient at this time of equipment failure.
