Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 11 to 20 of 20    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Friday, January 20, 2023
Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied almost all the trails (North, South, and all the spurs/outlooks). Most classic trails were freshly groomed today and tracks were still soft. Some areas were thin or had turned up debris but a good portion of the classic track will be good once firm. As for skate deck, everything was rolled and groomer was just laying corduroy on the wider trails.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Groomed the skate deck this morning. Did not groom the classic tracks. FYI, a logging job is scheduled to start on the property next week which will effectively shut down skiing for several weeks so this weekend may be the last skiing here for a while.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed the skate trails. There was a little powder over the hard base so things are fairly clean now. Didn't set classic track. The classic tracks were relatively intact, and skiers are skiing the powder in.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Groomed the skate trails this morning. It's ok, but not great. There are a few thin spots, but overall there's still good coverage. The main issue is there are a lot of pine needles and oak leaves down. I did not set classic track.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Bring ice skates for parking lot. B or rock skis recommended. Classic tracks were distant and not inviting, yet present like an ice luge; skating deck freshly rolled, but questionable after heat wave. Expect plenty of needles (pine) and acorns. Views remain magnificent. Not the best conditions, but sufferable for the devoted skier.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
On the trail Monday midday as the groomer was doing his rounds. Everything was packed, and tracks were being set. Trail was clear of debris. A great time to be out with a little new snow!

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The west trail is groomed for skating and has a classic track set. The north and south loops and Beezley spur have classic track set. Conditions are good except in the conifer plantations where the snow is thin. The ridge trail has been rolled, but not groomed. The pine trail is still closed due to down trees.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied North Loop on the way out and ridge trail on the way back, around 10K total. Groomers out and working to compress all of the new snow. Great for classic skiing, but the groomers need more time before skate skiing will be possible. Used rock skis as some twigs were present. Beautiful day!

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The south loop was rolled and the west trail was partially rolled today. The heavy snow has brought down a lot of branches and has bent a lot of trees and shrubs into the trails. At the moment I'd only ski the Coulee if you're interested in doing backcountry. The work will continue tomorrow.

Afternoon
Observation
There are about 7 inches of new snow and it was still snowing when I checked out the trails. It looked like Kevin had just started to compact the snow on the south trail.
