Notes

This is a remote trail that is groomed by volunteers for classic skiing that goes thru jackpine forests, black spruce swamps and over glacial eskers. A skier will probably see more tracks of deer, wolves and moose that they will of other skiers. A snowshoe trail is also starts by the trailhead. Located two miles south of Hellman's Store on CR 44.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trail was groomed today, and is in good to very good condition. There are still a few spots where there is stubble sticking up, as in the last 2 weeks we've only gotten 1.5" snow, with 8" on the ground. We seem to be missing all of the heavier snowfalls, much to our dismay.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The sun feels good and seems to warm you up more than it did a month ago. I only had a short time to ski so I skied the north groomed section. Grooming was good. The tracks were pretty crunchy with the thawing/freezing. We need more snow! There were lots of wolf tracks on the trail. They kindly leave their scat next to the track (not in the track!) The red squirrels were busy at work in the pines.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
Did not ski this time, although the trail looked great; but we brought our snowshoes. There is a beautiful trail across from the parking lot, and it was a nice mild day to check out the glacial eskers.

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We skied some north trails and the south loop just before noon. Excellent shape considering temperature was around 36 degrees. This is a great classical track for all abilities, don't pass this one up! Use the donation box to show your support.

Trail was in great condition - it was my first visit and there was more snow than most places closer to Duluth. Worth the drive, really a pretty trail and nicely marked/maintained.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trail is in mostly good condition, with the exception of a few areas where there is some grass and debris sticking up. We only have about 7" of snow on the ground, less under the heavier tree cover. Trail is groomed.

Grooming

The 6" of snow packed down to about 2". Not really skiable yet; but beautiful in the woods. Will set some tracks when we get more snow.
