Notes

This is a remote trail that is groomed by volunteers for classic skiing that goes thru jackpine forests, black spruce swamps and over glacial eskers. A skier will probably see more tracks of deer, wolves and moose that they will of other skiers. A snowshoe trail is also starts by the trailhead. Located two miles south of Hellman's Store on CR 44.

2022-2023 season
Reports 14 to 23 of 24    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
After a morning low of -33F, it warmed up to -3F and time to get out for a ski. South loop was in great shape, deep tracks and solid pole plants. Not the best glide at these temps, but the sun was out, and the trees were flocked with snow.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied all of the easy and difficult trails this morning. The tracks on the north side were initially covered in a couple inches of light and powdery snow. However, once we crossed the road and skied the South Loop, we found freshly groomed tracks! The North trails were also being groomed as we were leaving. Still bits of debris here and there, but overall the trails were in great shape! A huge thank you to Al for his excellent work!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Had a great ski today. Trails were tracked on Friday, and had 1" new snow on them. Glide wasn't as great as it could have been, but the temperature was right, the woods were beautiful, and best of all there were no trees down.

Cleared more down trees today, and set a track. A few areas have brush close to the track, but should be good skiing this weekend.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
We are slowly getting the trails open from all the heavy snow damage. We are about 70% cleared of downed trees and tracked. Expect some twigs and pine needles on trail, as we did not get any new snow from the latest storm. The snowshoe trail is open and cleared for those coming to snowshoe.

We are still trying to get a skiable loop open after all the heavy snow damage. We hope to have crews out every day this week, and hopefully have a track set by the end of the week.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails: Closed, B skis ]
We are still working to open the trails. Many areas look like a tornado went thru, but it was all from the heavy snowfall. We are making progress, but it's slow.

Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Good skis ]
We started working on packing and clearing the trail after 26" of heavy wet snow. We did 2 km, it took about 4 hours, and we probably cut 50 trees off of the trail. It will be a slow process.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
We have received 11" of heavy wet snow, and are expecting more tonight. Grooming plans: We will try and get to the trails to pack and track as soon as possible, but sometimes its a challenge when the snow is so wet.
