Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 18 to 25 of 25    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan
Tuesday, January 29, 2019
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Very good conditions at McMiller. Groomers went over and over the new snow to get a solid base. Of course it's still slow and in places still soft, but overall much better than I expected this afternoon. Classic tracks were solid and deep.

Trails are covered well and a firm skating deck. Tracks looked superb too! One or two spots that are thin but easily avoidable. Great grooming.

5 degrees this morning and the skate deck was freshly groomed and firm. Had a very enjoyable ski as a light snow was falling.

Arrived around 2:45 and everything was rolled. Deck was very soft and I was sinking in many places. By the time I finished all trails had been fully groomed, though everything was still soft and slower. I used my good skis, and was good with them, but did see some of my tracks sunk through to the ground and there were a couple dirty spots. I'd use my good skis again... depends how picky you are. Can't wait for this snow to settle!

Trails are open and well-groomed. The skate track is a bit soft but considering this weekend is the first reasonable skiing of the season, I'd say this was better than expected.

Was looking forward to skiing McMiller. There was good coverage on the trails but if I were to guess they weren't groomed till this morning. I say that because the skate lanes would alternate between firm and soft. Not many skiers had used the trails so it hadn't been packed down much at all. The tracks were set and looked good for the most part though they were set down to the grass in many spots. Skate lanes may be nice if it sets up more or was compacted again. Cold temps and soft snow made it a bit difficult.
