Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 11 to 15 of 15    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trails were in fair to poor condition. I had not been here before and the prior reports sounded ok. After skiing Reforestation yesterday, I sure regretted coming here instead today. While the trails appear to have full coverage, I kept getting stuck on dirt where the snow layer was thin, and it often wasn't apparent where these spots were. Constant lurching forward, and I fell forward no less than 10 times. I would not recommend coming here until there is more snow, especially given the awesome conditions at Reforestation. There were also several spots on the ski trails that had been snowshoed on, and where a sled was pulled.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
Ski trails are open. 1-2" of fluffy snow on top of Thursdays packed surface. Skate skier on Friday reported to staff that trails were in good condition with the early snow. Some snowshoers have been out on the snowshoe trails. Sledding hill is ready also!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Managed to pack all ski trails, snowshoe and walking trails. Some oak leaves, sticks and occasional bare spot. Trails look really good for this time of year, need to freeze solid tonight before weekend use. More snow is needed on this base before we can set a track. Sledding hill was packed as well.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All ]
Good snowfall today -- Powdery, about 5-7" of snow. Looking at packing trails Thursday morning. Depending on how the packing goes will determine if just making a base or setting a track.

Scenery at Navarino has changed due to a timber harvest in November. Staff and volunteers have gone through all 12+ miles of trails and have them ready to go, just need snow now. All grooming equipment has been upgraded this year, this is due to donations / grants and partnership with the local DNR staff. Groomer is now a 6'tidd tech with tracksetter, and pulling it will be a John Deere gator on tracks. We have held a volunteer training and have 12 individuals ready to assist with grooming. New donation posts are out at the trail heads, please show your support of the recent upgrades and changes. Think snow and we will see you on the trails of Navarino!
