60% of the trail is fine. The other 40% basically got driven over by maintenance vehicles recently and is almost a "take your skis off and walk" situation. Overall this trail blows right now. Would not recommend.

Skied the whole southern, two way trail along Vadnais Lake. Overall the tracks are in great shape. The length along County F at the very start/end had the most shallow or washed out tracks, otherwise still well set. Debris from the trees heavy in some places, but not enough to make it unpleasant. Had a blast.

The segment north of Co. Rd. E/F was in fair to good condition. There was a shallow but consistent machine-set track. The only thing that detracted from a consistent good rating was the amount of needle and leaf litter on the wooded sections of the trail. On the good news side of the ledger, there were no truck tracks at the NE end as there has been in recent years and the snow plow wake had not contaminated the track on the north side of the loop alongside Hwy 96. It was 12 degrees. I used Rex light green for kick.

The trail section south of Co. Rd E/F was in poor to fair condition. There was a shallow but consistent machine-set track. But the pine needle litter and, to a lesser extent leaf litter, was pretty heavy, particularly on the section from the parking lot to the bridge and again once you turned away from the lake. (I only skied as far as the right angle turn next to McMenemy before turning around.) A very small section next to the lake was drifted over. It was about 4 degrees. I used light green Rex for kick.

Skied both north and south of County F. North - tracks are pretty good, some debris in the trees, but not bad at all. Swans are a swimming in the open water. South of F, there is a lot more debris, so a little slower. But the classic trails are in pretty decent shape.

Headed for a mostly protected area to ski this afternoon and was rewarded with new (probably yesterday) deeply set tracks on this classic only ski trail. Although wind blown snow covered a small section of trail, and both oak leaves, pine needles and other tree debris impacted some sections, my Peltonen touring no wax skis worked great. As always a large number of Trumpeter Swans were present in protected stretch of open water. It was a great ski!

Skied Sucker Lake loop. Good double classic tracks for much of the loop. Trail not tracked and is icy next to the creek at the south end of the lake. Half of trail was plowed/scraped from middle east side of lake up to highway 96 – so there is just one good classic track available for that portion of the trail. Mostly protected woods. A few dozen swans in the open water areas.

I skied Vadnais Lake trail this morning starting at Edgerton almost to County Road F. Two sets of tracks were laid but much of one set of tracks or the other was flattened out by vehicle treads. Since I wanted to ski in the tracks it necessitated that I switch back and forth between the two sets.

The groomer set classic tracks on Friday when the snow was still soft and slushy in spots. The overnight snow and low temperatures made for very good conditions today. Good classic tracks all the way around Sucker Lake. The Vadnais Lake trail is without classic tracks for the first 200 yards out of the north lot, but good tracks from the foot bridge all the way to the end.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Most ]
The groomer came this morning and set a bed on all trails. Classic tracks were not set. Trucks have been using the northeast section of Sucker loop so that part of the trail is a little rough.
