Notes

Mcnaughton Lake Trail follows old logging roads around three lakes and has very few steep hills. It is very scenic and an excellent trail for a beginner. A five and a half mile loop is groomed for skating. There is a shelter with a fire ring on the trail.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All loops were cut, groomed and/or tracked today. With the little bit of fresh snow last night, the trails are still a little chunky but in good condition. The thin spots from Monday appeared to be covered up nicely again.

All loops were cut, groomed and/or tracked. The trails overall are in good condition. The recent warm temps made a few thin spots on the classic loops. The trails are a little chunky but still have good tracks.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All the terrain we skied has good coverage, no thin spots at all. In certain sections, there were at time lots of pine needles and other debris in the tracks...presumably from the high winds the day prior. The tracks were also icy because of the warm-up days earlier. Bottom line: definitely worth skiing and another several inches of new snow wouldn't hurt.

Firsthand: Classic

Conditions were excellent on a perfect winter day--20 degrees and lots of snow still clinging to the trees made for a great ski. Deep, solid classical tracks and firm skating deck. Most skiers appear to be doing classical, as the skate loop looked almost untouched since it was groomed.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The entire McNaughton Trail system was in very good condition this morning. There is good two track classic track on all classic only loops and one can (and I did) use (my) classic skis to circumnavigate McNaughton Lake on the skate only loop. There may be one or two avoidable rocks in the classic tracks under the tall Hemlock forest canopy where there is less snowflake through fall during snow falls. In those same places and in the heavy Pine Forest areas there can be a fair amount of needle and cone debris in the groomed down snow. Despite these qualifications, I used classic skis that I race and enjoyed a very good hour and a half of skiing in beautiful snow laden forest. McNaughton is a popular trail and it is receiving moderately heavy use at this time. I saw only one other car in the parking lot off North Highway 17 as I left following my ski.

All loops today have been tracked and groomed. With the exception of only a couple thinner spots, the trails are in great condition. The base is almost level now. The lower spots are filling in nicely for an even surface. With a few more inches of snow, the trails will be in excellent condition.

Overall, with the recent snow, the trails are in good condition. There are a few spot where the trail is still a little thin in the heavy pine areas. All loops have been tracked and groomed. The trails might be a little soft yet from yesterdays warm temps. There was a lot of moisture in the snow. Should tighten up very nicely for the weekend.
