Great day running both Ginzus for the first time. Groomed and tracked all trail segments except for Blue Return which we rolled. It's fine for skating but uneven. With cold weather the trail should set up. We had to repair some damage at the trailhead where a truck drove onto the trail, but it cleaned up ok and after the next snowfall should be gone.

The Falls received about 8" in the storm. We packed on Thursday and rolled all trails including Red and Blue Hill #1 for skating on Friday. Yesterday, Saturday, the skate deck was fairly firm but slow in the cold. There will be a few low snow spots over rocks. We will use Ginzus to groom and reset tracks on Monday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Finally enough new snow to groom. We rolled and followed with Ginzu 2 loops on Green, Orange, and Yellow trails and set tracks for the first time. Tracks are nice where there was more snow, thin in a few spots. Most rocks are covered but still use care on ridges. 'Twas a very nice afternoon with falling snow in 25 F weather.

I rolled the Blue Trail today. It's not as nice as the other segments, more ruts, but once the snow firms up it will be skiable. I'd skip the Shelter loop- it's narrow and quite uneven. And I would walk down that first little downhill with the "Caution" sign on the big white pine. I got stuck there... perils of early season grooming. I also rolled the rest of the trail again so that all trails are double wide.

In addition to re-rolling the Green, we rolled one 8' skate lane on Orange and Yellow yesterday afternoon. I skated all the trails today and all are fine with the exception of some rocky sections of the Orange on the east side. I used good skis but was cautious. Remarkably good skiing. Weather was perfect at +24 and sunny. Skate corduroy was very firm.
We also rolled the "race track" on Tilson Bay south of the highway. This is fabulous skiing. If you need practice going fast or using V2 this is the cat's meow.

On Friday we rolled about 8" of heavy new snow on the Green Trail, and I skated it today. Sure, it's bumpy, but the cover is OK for skating. No rocks on the Green Trail. You've got about 3k of skiing there. It was great to be out again. By the way, we also rolled a 3 K skate lane on the ice of Tilson Bay, south of the bridge. That's fabulous! Makes one feel like a real skier...
