Conditions: Good! Slow because warm.
A beautiful day to visit one my favorite ski trails. The snow was quite soft so the going was slow. Clumps of heavy wet snow fell on our heads at times but that was rather refreshing given the warm temps. Excellent coverage on all the trails, which had been recently groomed and were skier-tracked after Friday snowfall.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Grooming Scheduling
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Personally skied over half of the trails the past 2 days. Fresh 3" since the weekend and more to come tomorrow. With up to 30" in the woods and a 6-10" base, the trail is very flat and level side to side.
All I can say is "probably the best classic skiing in the northland!" But then I'm partial. Grooming Friday. Tracks should be set to perfection. Ski all weekend in the high 20s to low 30s. January? Hah!

[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent, plenty of base left from the big snow and about an inch of freshies fell Saturday night.
The snow still has loft on the trail and makes for a forgiving surface and waxing easy. Much better than the snow (natural and man made) down round the TC. Every loop is a treat but the Flathorn loop was particularly gorgeous and rewarding with plenty of wildlife and exploding marshmallow fluff trees.

[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent trails. Packed snow, well tracked. Lots of snow and more to come this week. Plenty of options for short or long runs.
If you haven't made it up to National Forest Lodge, it is a must this season. The skiing is exceptional, many options for ability. Accommodations and hospitality at the lodge are fantastic. No other experience like it out there.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Great skiing. All trails are finally clear of snow weighted brush. Not much additional snow fell this week, but 80% of the trails were tracked Friday. 10-20" in the woods and a solid base.
Wonderful mild weekend with full moon skiing. Snow continues to cling to the pines creating a winter fantasy land. Thanks to groomer, neighbors and USFS for pitching in. Photos from Jan 17th.
