I was surprised at how much snow there was up here. Good grooming on these classic only trails and the little bit of snow on Sunday made them fast but not icy.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fantastic! Freshly groomed, deep base, snow was a bit heavy due to warmer weather but trails sped up later in the day with less direct sun.
Hard to believe that there could be this much snow up here, but pole plants off the groomed trail go down 1/2 a pole! Hats off to Andy and the team from NFL for outstanding grooming. Trails in great shape, trees still frocked with snow, abundant sunshine and warm enough for lightweight gear. Narrow trails surrounded by tall pines, many elevation changes, light use and a semi-wilderness feel, make this the best classic only trail system that we have skied in the Upper Midwest.

Conditions: Tracks set up great on Thursday so it should be a great weekend of skiing.
More snow later this weekend and colder temps should provide great skiing the weekend of March 4th!

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Trails groomed Thursday. Set up great with 3" of new snow. 10-14+' base with up to 3.5 feet in the woods.
Friday? Not so great. Been raining. El Nino giveth and El Nino taketh away. Here's hoping for colder temps and more snow this coming week. Update: Half inch of snow Friday evening will greatly improve the icy tracks from Friday's rain.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Great coverage and deep tracks.
Lots of snow and excellent grooming. We skied most the the trails and found them all to be in great shape. The narrow winding classic only trails are quite a challenge compared to the wide skate/classic dual use trails found in many other locations so making the turns as the trees whip by is a challenge. Lots of fun!

Grooming Scheduling
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: About 5" of fresh snow in the past week should be a great boost for the trails through the big pines. 24-36" in the woods (don't step off the 8-12" base ;) ).
Grooming this afternoon! Temps becoming more normal and great skiing in the forecast.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 4" of new snow!
skied from the National Forest Lodge both Saturday and Sunday. 4" of new snow fell between Saturday night and Sunday, and everything was flocked white and stunning by 8am Sunday morning. Freshly groomed trails, it just does not get any better. Temps have dropped now, but still must ski trails. The lodge is a fantastic place to stay for the weekend and ski out the door to all levels of trails. Just go. You'll be repeat users, guaranteed.

Conditions: Excellent! System just groomed today.
Winter wonderland out here! Some of the birches are forming full arches over the trails under the weight of the snow. The tracks are firm and deep.
