Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The snowmaking loop was groomed for skating and classic this morning. With 25 mph winds, expect some drifted parts of the trail. Twin lakes and Hap groomed with pistenbully. Other natural snow trails are being groomed now, but that will not be complete until this afternoon.

Probably the best conditions of the year and because of the birkie, the trails are empty. Snowmaking loop is perfect. Wirth lake and skyline loop hadn't been groomed when I was out, but other natural snow trails had. Eloise Butler was freshly groomed, is still a bit soft, but overall really good and the best grooming so far this year. Get out and enjoy it!

Near perfect mix of fresh snow and crisp grooming. A nice crowd but definitely plenty of space to feel alone with snow covered oaks. Pretty great at sunset.

I was out on JD Rivers and Tornado Alley starting at 5:00 AM. I was expecting to slog through inches of powder, but was very pleasantly surprised to see the trail was already groomed at least once for skate. Just about 1/2 inch of powder on top of the last groom. No tracks yet but I was able to double pole and glide reasonably well. A few very soft spots but quite firm deck overall - great shape considering how little time has passed since the snow ended. The manmade loop was in great shape, a bit slow, but very nicely groomed.

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon on the snowmaking loop. There had obviously been plenty of traffic, but the deck was very solid and there was very little loose snow. Similar to yesterday, the turns were clean. Less debris than yesterday on Twin Lakes since there was less wind. Reasonably fast snow considering my cold wax. It looked like Judy had been groomed, but I didn't make it out there today. Lots of snowshoers around, but they were doing a good job looking out for skiers when crossing the trail.

Fantastic skiing this morning on both natural and man made trails in Wirth North. The natural trails are much improved since Friday, with consistent grooming all weekend. The groomers were starting about 7:00 on the golf course this morning, so things should be good today. Comparing grooming on the natural vs. manmade loop isn't really apples to apples due to the difference in equipment used on each trail. As good as the natural was, going over the bridge onto the manmade loop feels like shooting out of a canon - the conditions are just so amazing on the manmade loop. Fun day!

Skied the snowmaking loop right after the races were done. The track was well worn, but the deck was still very firm. The snow was fast even though what little wax I had was for 20 degrees colder. There was some debris on Twin Lakes due to wind, but not much. The turns were still clean, even the raced on turn at the bottom of the North Finger was easy to get around.

Disappointing grooming conditions on the natural trails today. Was hoping they'd get some extra love with the manmade loop being closed. As of 11:00 AM nothing was groomed. With the wind and the coat of fresh snow, the trail goes from soft to completely buried. There was a single ATV groomer that appeared on the Skyline around 10:30, but seemed to be having mechanical trouble. The small part they were able to groom was narrow and still quite soft.

Found the course closed due to races so hit the golf course instead. Lots of blowing and drifting across the skate deck made for tip trips in the deep snow; they hadn't groomed since winds picked up in last few days. Beautiful sunny day though!

Excellent conditions for classic and skate on the Meadow and Twin Lake loops with quite a few double classic tracks. They were preparing for the Mayor's Race tomorrow, and had made some new trails on the rest of the snowmaking loop for the races. So, parts of the rest of the North trails were hit and miss for classic tracks. The long, big downhill on Judy was awesome with double classic tracks all the way down. The Judy loop by Bassett wasn't groomed. All in all, it was another fun day at Wirth!
