Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: No new grooming, started to snow.
Classic skied the man made loop at 10:00. They did not regroom since yesterday so the classic tracks were washed out or non existent in some areas. It started to snow while I was skiing so it was nice and soft out of the tracks. There is still only the 1.5K loop open (sadly). Skied to the top of the long hill and there is a ton of snow, it just needs to be groomed out so hopefully the entire loop will be open soon?

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Beautiful grooming on the manmade course.
Nice deep Classic tracks and level skate deck. Race skis are at no risk with the current snow depth. Maybe the remainder of the artificial snow loop will open soon? There are certainly some large piles of snow being made.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Surprisingly good!
Skied the entire system down to Brownie Lake. The inch of snow we received Monday night made a huge difference. Park Board crew did a nice job grooming things up. Another burst Thursday and we would really be in business . . .

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Very good on snow-making loop.
Wirth was a buzz with high school teams this afternoon. The snow-making loop was still only 1.5k, but it looks like the complete loop should be ready soon. My only gripe is that the course seems to have grown an extra steep hill this year. I don't know how that can happen since I think it follows the same route as last year. Maybe we're climbing a mountain of snow. At any rate, it's way too steep for most people to actually ski up it (as opposed to herringbone skate). I'd like to see a bypass option, but on a 1.5 k loop there aren't many options for that.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Good on the open loop, a grooming pass away from good on the rest of the lighted/snowmaking loop.
Classic skied in the evening--my first time at Theo this season. The open trail was well groomed, the tracks were not the deepest, but sill quite good. We also skied on the ungroomed section from the bottom of the tubing hill over to the groomed trail at the lower stadium. Everything was looking pretty well snow-covered, with just a few twigs poking through. I'd expect (and hope) the rest of trail should be ready soon, especially with the 0.5"+ we received the same night.
I also poked around the other rolled trails before last night's snow and they too looked ready to go with just a little more snow.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: As of 8 pm when I finished they had received 1" of new snow and still falling gently. Even though it's just an inch it's dense so should really help things out. Saw a snow gun going and snow was spread out some making it look like they might open up some more soon.
Even with it being cold it was a beautiful night for skiing. Just have to dress for it.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: The 1.5K loop is doing very well. The grooming was very good today, and there were no sugary uphills and no washed out downhills. Groomers appeared to be busy working on the other (closed) portion of the man-made loop.
There were many people out enjoying Wirth today, despite the chilly weather. Like the old saying goes, "There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing!" I was toasty today, especially after a few of the hills.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: The 1.5 km snowmaking loop is excellent.
Wirth has made a lot of new snow. They have not opened any additional trail, but what they do have now has a very deep base. You can use race skis. Track was shallow but skate deck good. I did not try the natural snow course.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Thin but skiable with caution.
I skied a section of the front 9 and then into South Wirth mid-afternoon. There were many skiers out today, and the trail has been heavily used in spite of the low coverage in many areas. I found hard pack nearly everywhere with several sections of rock, wood chip or pavement beginning to show through. You can navigate much of this but have to hoof it underneath Hwy 55 as well as the bridge section to the south of Hwy 55 where some recent forestry work has left a lot of debris. South Wirth was okay in some places but quite rutted in others with a fair amount of debris. This section has seen a lot of foot traffic as well. It is skiable, but I recommend caution until a little more coverage smooths things out and covers some of the debris poking through. Also, note that you'll need to jump the curb returning by the Eloise Butler section where the trail meets the road. The open areas seems to have the best and most consistent coverage at this time.

Secondhand
Conditions: Supposedly open and in good condition.
After the last grim trail report I called Theodore Wirth this morning and was told the groomer was out and the man-made loop is open as well as the back 40. The person I spoke with said rock skis were not needed.
