Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 26 to 35 of 87    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Very good on the man-made loop. Fair to poor on the Back Nine and Front Nine. No classic tracks off of the man-made loop.
The trail has been groomed but it is still very icy in many parts of the front and back nine. Hard to get an edge for skating and no classic tracks set. A few areas with blown snow, or shaded areas, are a bit better. Man-made loop was great.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Freshly groomed for skate and classic.
Thought I'd brave the weather, and it was worth it. I skated about 3k of the back 9, and it was a bit crunchy, but hard to be picky.

Scheduling
Conditions: Icy from warm weather!
We will be working the next few days on getting all of the Wirth trails into shape after all of the weekend activities and weather. We will have a full post tomorrow on trail conditions and where we stand after the warm up.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
The meager dusting we got made for decent skating in sheltered areas. But its just ice where the wind carried it away. The groomer was out this morning on the back 40 and snow making loop.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fantastic coverage, snow still airy and thus slow.
I skied Wirth Lake and every trail North of Wirth Lake early this morning. Fresh cord on the manmade; everything else had not been groomed for a day or so. Bottineau way was relatively firm, but Twin Lakes and JD Rivers need to be groomed and skied in a little more before they firm up. Plenty of snow though, bust out the A skis.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
I checked out the south Wirth trails by headlamp this evening, and they are all doing great! Eloise Butler to Lake of the Isles were groomed nice and wide, and the snow is clean. Should make for an awesome weekend of events.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Skied Wirth Lake through Cedar Lake this evening before sunset. Snow is still abrasive. it was pretty soft at Butler, bog, and through Cedar. Will take some more grooming to knock the air out. Some thinner spot on climbs in Butler and bog as the new snow was so airy. Good coverage over 394 and through Cedar tunnel.

Conditions: Freshly groomed and soft.
I skied Eloise Butler, the bog and part of Cedar. Saw the piston bully and snowmobile out grooming. Everything is really soft right now but very pretty.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Skied from 10:30-12:00. Started by doing 5 laps on the Twin Lakes loop which had been groomerd probably really early so new snow on top and was blowing. Got better after skating it in. Went onto Skyline, and ran into 2 snowmobile groomers rolling JD Garden up to Wirth Lake. When I came back to the chalet saw the Piston Bully on Skyline and another snowmobile by the chalet.
New snow seemed to be about 10-12" with tons of air smashing down significantly after grooming. Drove past Isles and Cedar Lake and south of Wirth on my way up which wasn't groomed yet.

Conditions: Excellent. Groomed this morning and last night. A little soft, but can't complain.
Awesome 7:30am ski. They had groomed last night and the groomer was out this morning. Even the back nine which was not groomed this morning just had 1-2" of light fluffy snow over groomed trail. High school sectionals starting later this morning.
