2015-2016 season
Reports 46 to 55 of 87    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Excellent, considering ...
Blue Wax. Skated Upper and Lower Stadium loops (man-made snow), Judy Loop and Twin Lake Trail. Had my "B" skis, which were good to have for Judy Loop and Twin Lake Trail ... good coverage throughout, but a few small patches here and there. I was surprised by how good those two trails are with the amount of snow we have. The Stadium loops with the man-made snow are excellent. Could have used "A" skis there. Deep deck and uniform coverage. We had a great time today.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Snowmaking loop is perfect.
The snowmaking loop is quite impressive this year. More depth of the snowpack than i think they have ever had before. Skate deck is level and perfect. The thing is so deep that it actually smooths out some of the changes in inclination on the hills. The whole loop is now open.

Conditions: Good on back nine. Excellent on snowmaking loop.
I was excited to get on the back nine after so long. I was not disappointed... Good grooming and surprisingly good coverage. A few grassy places and an icy patch at the bottom of the two long descents... But no complaints, great fun.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good all sections groomed and most dirt patches are covered.
This report is on the front 9, tornado alley, and wirth lake. Wirth lake is now groomed across, but the snow layer is very thin in spots. Rest of the trail was in pretty good shape with most dirt patches covered over. Watch for loose dogs though near Wirth Lake. Too many people are walking down the middle of the trail with unleashed dogs.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Full snowmaking loop is open! Rest of system fair to good.
Skied the first half of the Loppet course from the lower stadium to 394 this morning. The snowmaking loop is now fully open and in excellent condition. The natural snow portions of the trails (Twin lakes, Judy, Front 9, Worth Lake, Eloise Butler and the Bog) are all fully covered with just a few dark bits poking through here and there. A little bumpy, but the snow is great for skating (there are no classic tracks on the natural snow). I'd recommend B skis although you could use your good ones if you were very careful. There is a nasty curb sticking through at the bottom of the hill going into the Eloise Butler parking lot. Beware or you'll get some free stone grinding!

Grooming Scheduling
[ B skis ]
Conditions: The man-made loop is now fully open!
The full man-made loop was groomed this morning and tracks were set. The loop is fully open for the season. Surrounding Wirth trail were not groomed today but will be tomorrow. we are trying to conserve snow pack with warm weather coming and some big races as well. The snowmaking staff thanks you for your patience with getting the man made loop completed. Happy Skiing!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Snowmaking loop was excellent for classic and skate, the Twin Lake, Hap, and Judy loops were all packed and had decent coverage.
It was fun getting out in the woods at Wirth today without a crowd of skiers around. It looks like the snowmaking loop is getting close to completion.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Decent coverage over most of the trail, a bit bumpy with the low snowfall, but a nice ski nonetheless.
Skied most of the Wirth trail system. Felt the north trails had a little better coverage. Snow on Wirth lake was very thin, and sometimes loose. Grooming was good for skating. Used B skis, and felt that was about right for the few places I encountered dirt or curbs. Very enjoyable to ski some real distance without loops. Beware of the ice hanging on the snowmaking loop, there are some exceptional large monsters - makes me nervous.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Trail rolled with corduroy front 9 to Brownie lake.
Snow pack very thin or non-existent and rutted on Wirth lake and Anwatin pond. Still too thin to install classic tracks. Deep slush still on Brownie lake. Happy skiing!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Man-made snow - expanded and very nice!
The trail now extends beyond the catwalk before it cuts through the woods toward the tubing hill. No GPS, so I am not sure how far it is (maybe 2K?). Great conditions for striding except for some funky trail conditions just after the catwalk (very, very close to the edge of the snowbank). Great to see Wirth coming together (and the snow guns were going full force at 3:00; hope to see the rest of the man-made loop done soon). Thanks to the groomers!
