Every place that is on a base of manmade snow was holding up very well this morning. The deck is still well above ground so there are no puddles or saturated areas. Skins were working very well.

I had such amazing ski outings on Tuesday and Monday I thought I might end the season there. But, I couldn't resist trying today looking at all that snow. When I started around 9:15 (classical) it was soft and slow on the Wirth North natural trails (JD rivers, tornado alley, bridge trail). The man-made loop was not much better, though a bit less soft enabling more glide. Throughout there were a few icy spots, which were actually nice to be able to get some momentum going. Debris isn't too bad, but a few places are covered with twigs and leaves. I just encountered a couple of larger pieces of bark. The bridge over Theo Wirth Parkway was particularly twig filled, and the underpass going under the railroad tracks to the skyline trail is very thin/dirty. On the way back around 10:15-30 it was even softer, and felt like someone turned up the resistance dial, or like somebody was pulling the emergency break just when you'd expect to hit a nice glide. The good news is that there is still plenty of snow everywhere (though it's getting quite thin under highway 55).

Theo North was excellent this morning. Recently groomed. Early in the morning the track was grippy but then became glazed with the drizzle, and be the time I left it was true klister conditions.

Theo Wirth North remains nearly perfectly groomed with a wide solid skate deck and well-defined tracks.

Continued perfection on the man-made snow loop (Green Meadow, Twin Lake, Ridgeline, North Finger, La Squadra, Trail 18), both for skating and classic striding. The Judy Loop is a bit soft, but incredibly fun and excellent coverage. The Bridge Trail is in great shape so you can get across Wirth Parkway without taking off your skis. The Skyline Trail is in great shape and flows really well with the new direction this year. Tornado Alley is a bit soft, but there is good snow coverage under the Highway 55 bridge so no need to remove skis! Classic tracks present everywhere on the North Wirth trails. Lots of vitamin D from the sun as well!

The conditions were excellent for classic and skate this morning on the man made, Meadow, Twin, and Judy loops. Thanks to the groomers for doing a great job. It was an awesome day to be on the trails.

Skied all the trails north of Glenwood Avenue mid-day on such a beautiful day and it was all very fun. The snowmaking trails were all impeccable! Good glide and control. The natural trails were mostly good but somewhat variable, some were soft and there were a few hard packed and icy spots. A few minor slushy areas are appearing on Wirth Lake, so might be problematic with warmup. A decent number of skiers out especially on the natural snow trails including several skijourers.

Pristine. Probably the best combination of conditions and visual conditions. Groomers did a great job. I just noticed the additional trails on the north end of the park toward Golden Valley Rd. Also forgot how hard those hills are. Probably have only been able to ski that northern section a couple times in the last decade. Get out there and enjoy it while it lasts!

I had a hard time trying to decide where to go today. I really wanted to go somewhere I hadn't been yet this year, but finally decided that, considering yesterday's snow and today's wind, I'd better stick with tried-and-true Theo Wirth snowmaking. At first it seemed I'd made the wrong choice. Conditions were highly variable and unpredictable, with the skate deck alternating between scoured ice, drifts, and frozen ruts, especially on south-facing hill climbs. It's that time of year. Shaded-north facing slopes were good though, such as the hill into Green Meadows. Thinking maybe the natural trails would be better, I tried Judy, but finding that it was drifted even worse than the rest of the course, returned to the snowmaking loop, finally settling on the North Finger. So, just as I did last year one day with similar conditions as today, I ended up just doing the North Finger over and over again, and went away feeling satisfied. So the North Finger is now my "Tried and True.".

I didn't make it out until after 9, so I wasn't sure how firm things would be. But the snowmaking loop was well packed, so that there was almost no loose stuff despite plenty of traffic. Snowplowed turns were still firm and the uphills had no sugar. Judy trail had some more mixed conditions, including some ice when entering the woods at the bottom of the long downhill. There were twigs and leaves in many spots on Judy and the snowmaking loop due to wind. No real issues for skate, but they could have added extra kick for classic. Hopefully it will still be intact next weekend.
