  The Coulee Experimental Forest is about 3,000 acres of upland oak forests, experimental tree plantings, ridgetop open fields, rock outcroppings and a few small "goat" prairies on steep topography.

  Eighteen miles of ski trails are groomed and tracked as conditions permit. Mainly classical, with a couple kilometers skating accessible from the Gold Mine trailhead. The varying terrain offers challenges for all skiers. Flush toilets, water, tables, and grills are provided at the trailhead.

  The trails are groomed by the City of La Crosse Park Department after each snowfall. They are groomed for skate-skiing and classic skiing. 
La Crosse 6  Human Powered Trails    10K    
  Located next to Hixon Forest on top of scenic Grandad Bluff.  
La Farge 7  Kickapoo Valley Reserve    16K     608-625-2960
  The five miles of the Old Highway 131 Trail provide an excellent opportunity to experience the solitude and beauty of the Reserve. Other groomed trails include the Dam Trail, Old Harris Road Trail and Star Valley Road.  
Millston 8  Black River Falls State Forest    45km     715-284-4103
  Some of the finest ski-touring trails in Wisconsin. Parking can be found at the Wildcat Lot, about 4 miles NE of Millston, and at Smrekar Lot, about 4 miles east of Millston. Trails run through woodlands and rolling terrain. There are 9 loops totaling 24 miles, and most trails are designated one-way. Ridge, Norway Pine, and Wildcat trails have very steep sections and are recommended for experts. 
Neillsville 9  Levis/Trow Mound Trail    30.0k     715-743-5140
  The trail system consists of approximately fifteen miles of groomed trail and another ten of ungroomed backcountry routes. The more advanced trails are located north and west of Levis on Trow Mound, while intermediate and easy trails lay near the base of Levis Mound. All groomed trails are set with diagonal tracks and a skating lane averaging 12 feet wide. Depending on snow conditions, the trail is generally groomed twice per week. Trail passes are required. Facilities include a new cross-country ski chalet, running water, mens and womens bathrooms.

  On a steep ridge overlooking the scenic Kickapoo River Valley, Wildcat Mountain State Park offers skiing trails with spectacular views. 
Sparta 11  Justin Trails Resort    12K     608-269-4522
  Wide trails groomed for classic and freestyle nordic skiing. The trails vary in difficulty and length. Some provide great vistas of the surrounding valleys and hills of southwest Wisconsin. 
Trempealeau 12  Perrot State Park    15K     608-534-6409
  Perrot State Park has cross country skiing and snowshoe trails in the La Crosse, WI area. Primarily classic trails with just 1.5K skate section near the campground. 
Westby 13  Snowflake Ski Club    4K     608-634-3211
  Primarily groomed for the Snowflake Nordic youth ski club. Site also has a full size ski jump.
