Packed snow with a light silky fluff on top. Excellent early season skiing. We skied classic. Tracks are set and firm, with a few leaves and spots where you might want to lift over. Most trails are open and tracked. We skied Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes and Sap Run with no issues. Skater's waltz looked to be good, with a firm base. There is no reason to wait, ski season is here.

We had 60 high school skiers from Moorhead on the trails all morning and early afternoon. The skate deck was much improved over this past weekend with a few bumpy areas, but overall excellent conditions for December 8th. The classic skiing was fantastic. We used swix VR40 and had excellent kick. The tracks had a couple of areas where there were leaves, but overall a fantastic experience for new classic skiers. I personally used my A skis with no problems.

Firsthand Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
An inch or so of new snow past 24 hours. Grooming on 40km of trail. 25km tracked classic only, 15km groomed skate only. Good to excellent early season conditions for skate, fair to very good early season conditions for classic. Scattered leafy spots and other organic forest matter from trails being located in the woods. 10km Twin Lakes singletrack groomed for fat biking. Solid, level deck with light dusting of snow waiting to be rider packed.
Skied newly tracked classic trails Island Lake and Wavy Gravy and previously groomed Twin Lakes, this afternoon. The light dusting of snow after grooming helped cover up some of the leaf spots but otherwise some of the best classic skiing on the outer trails in recent years. Awesome skiing in single digits which really helped set up the new tracksetting. Still some rough spots here and there through out the trail system, more on the outer trails, but for December 6th really nice skiing, imo. Please note no services in the lodge on Saturday with private event going on. Sunday afternoon coffee, hot chocolate and cookies will be available on the house with free will offering for day skiing.

Great conditions for December 2nd! I classic skied Sukkerbusk and Twin Lakes trails a few times with skin skis and they worked really well with leaves in the tracks here and there. For the most part these two trails had a very nice single track set. I also skated Skaters Waltz and it was much improved over last week. All of Skaters Waltz is open with little to no exposed areas! Some more snow and the trails will be in excellent shape.

1.25" moisture laden new snow past 24 hours. 30km trail groomed past 24 hours. 15km groomed skate only, 15km groomed classic only.
Classic skied with Peder this morning on all the classic trails groomed last night. Found probably the best natural snow classic skiing conditions I have experienced on November 30th that I can ever recall. A few thin/rough spots to watch out for but we were using newer skin skis and had no issues. A few leafy spots but again, no issues, especially with the skin skis. There were tons of tracks of all kinds of critters everywhere!
Afternoon once the temp started dropping again, groomed all the skate trails including Suicide Hill. Few more rough spots on North Loup but Skaters Waltz and Suicide Hill groomed up very nice. Should be a good weekend of early season skiing. No lodging/ski rental at this time or other guest services available but cookies/coffee/hot chocolate on the house in main lodge. Enjoy!
