Beyond expectations. Three Rivers staff were cleaning up fences, but I was told I could ski. Red Swix quick-klister worked well with mountainFLOW moly for glide. The deck was hard enough to skate, but not icy in the least. Plent of sun.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Late morning/lunch hour classic skied most of the outer loop. Conditions fair to poor. Mostly no track, but track existed in a few places. But still awesome to be skiing! What a great, long ski season this year!

Lake was in poor, sometimes awful condition. Valley and Northern Lights were in fair to poor condition. It was around 35 degrees. Made the mistake of assuming yesterday's good trail report was still good today. It wasn't. Once I got off Valley onto Lake conditions deteriorated a lot. Double pooling and skating on the side of the trail allowed me to get to the other side of the bridge where I chose to use the multi-use trail in lieu of the ski trail because of the poor conditions until it re-intersected with Lake again. Skated that okay including portions with ice to the base of the hill that I herringboned to the top where most of the rutting went away. Skated okay again until I reached where Creek and Lake split. Went with the shorter Lake because of the conditions, ended up double pooling and walking a lot compounded by missing the left turn and finding myself on really soft snow because I was off the ski trail on a segment that returned me back to the portion of Lake and Creek that I had already done. Repeated, this time catching the left turn and continued to struggle with poor conditions until the trail intersected with Creek again at which point conditions improved enough to allow me to skate again - with multiple pauses to rest on the higher effort sections of Northern Lights because of the snow conditions. Probably my last ski of the year, It wasn't the point of my ski but with it I reached 200 miles over just shy of a 4 month season.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic

The man-made snow loop is now double tracked, good conditions (for the part I was on). Took the outer trails - Lake, Eagle, Creek bypass, Northern Lights. Tracks are user-made and vary from none (near trail entrance) to pretty good (Eagle). The only bare ground was on the return by the swimming beach - another day and we'll be walking around that one. Otherwise complete snow coverage. The bridges still had plenty. Snow was soft and slow. The only hairy spot was the final downhill on Lake - rough and bumpy, with a water trickle at the bottom. Crews have been out clearing downed trees (still a couple on the bypass), so expect tire and boot marks. With the warm temps today, no ice!

Skied the man made snow loop, a lot of snow. Double tracks set, got slushy in the end, but good traction not great glide on classic skin skis. It was a good day anyway.

I intended to ski at Hyland this morning, but it hadn't been groomed. So I drove to Elm creek. It was well worth the drive. The man-made loop snow had been groomed. It was soft in places and slow, but quite skiable. Blue sky and full sun. Tomorrow morning should be nice.

Skate skied the valley trail (2.5k man-made snow loop) at Elm creek at 5pm. Groomers doing a fantastic job. Looked groomed earlier today and set. Slightly iced and good speed. No slush and no bare spots. Classic tracks looked nicely tracked. I heard from classic skiers tracks were a little icy. Get out and enjoy it while you can. Kudos to groomers this season, Thank you!

Elm groomers continue to work their magic. I timed it perfect later morning so they had groomed the outerloops (creek, etc) and multipurpose trail. They are skiing fantastic with a firm, fast base but nice snow cover to edge and push of skating. The outer trails were nicer than manmade (firmer, faster) and of course better scenery. The only spot to watch out for is the downhill after you come out of the scenic creek trail along the ridge. That downhill is icy so wise people took different routes to get down as shown in picture.

A fun day of spring skiing. Was very soft as expected for a middle of the afternoon ski, but great to be out in a t-shirt. Skied two laps of the lake and creek trails. Was surprised to find full coverage! Definitely a few spots that were just packed slush and maybe 2 or 3 spots with a little standing water. Natural snow was firmer than the man made, but was soft everywhere. Guessing there are at least a few more days of full coverage on the outer loops but beware of ice patches when that slush freezes.

Firsthand: Classic Observation Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
This morning, before the temperature reached freezing, the Valley trail was in excellent condition. I saw evidence that the groomers had headed out to scratch up the skate lane on the outer trails, but from a distance, the trail there still looked a bit rutted and difficult. The Piston Bully was out on Northern Lights while I was skiing, and the whole trail was skiable. I suggest B skis because, the link section is mostly turning icy, and there are icy patches on other sections out there. Northern Lights might be inaccessible by tomorrow. I asked at the chalet, and got a vague answer as to how much longer the park plans to continue grooming this season - a few more days maybe (?).
