Skated the lit portion of French Monday night around 8 pm (classic tracks were also set). Great conditions! Smooth and rolled, skate lanes had fairly heavy use on lit section and lighter on the unlit. I'm no connoisseur, but trails seemed great to me for this time of year, or any really. No bare spots at all that I saw. A couple of mild icy patches in the one unlit section I did, but small and manageable. Beautiful night, beautiful trails. Classic tracks were also set and in very reasonable skiable shape on the entire lit loop.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Staked at French starting around 9:30 am. Trails were ungroomed when I arrived and were about 2" of fresh snow on top of what was still a somewhat uneven and variable surface below. The wind was causing some mild drifting and was sufficient to snuff out the classic tracks of a classic skier that preceded me in several more exposed places (particularly out on the Meadow Trail near Northwest Blvd and Rockford Road). Groomers had started making passes shortly before I left, turning the skate deck into a smooth surface. I'm still using B skis because I still see some signs of grass here and there but I'm pretty protective of my good skis.

Some debris (sticks and leafs) but incredibly good conditions. On some of the flats you can find some wind blown icy spots - but I skied French two days in row as it's so nice. Definitely go here if you're tired of short loops elsewhere. B skis though, I wouldn't use my A skis yet.

Snow coverage and conditions very good throughout the system, just a very few minor icy and bare spots, which is why they are rated just fair. No classic tracks. And you tend to underestimate some of the hill climbing out there!

French is still in good condition. There are some leaves to watch out for and an occasional thin spot or icy patch but it is very manageable. I suggested B skis in my ski rating but I would be comfortable with good skis there. The downhill section of the new Medicine Trail is a little icy at the top but the snow is good near the bottom so you can control your turn into the main trail.
