Most of the trails are on the golf course, thus pretty open and fairly flat. The course really winds back and forth.

Trail Reports

2014-2015 season
Reports 15 to 18 of 18    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Tuesday, December 9, 2014
Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Lots of snow, could ski just about anywhere.
Tuesday night I checked out Phalen. There is plenty of snow on all the fairways. Crusty but you could ski in tracks or skate in a path. It was very nice.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Good crust skiing.
Lots of skate and classic tracks at Phalen. Easy to see the bare spots but definitely B or rock skis. Evening skiing is great with the light exhibit going on. Be sure to park on the side streets across from Arcade as the park area is closed off at night for the light show and there is a $10 charge to get in.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: No grooming. 1"-2" of new snow on top of fairly heavy crust, so you can feel the crust breaking under you but does not give way - skis do not get stuck, and you will rarely have to pull out the pole basket.
Stuber and I skated for over an hour and skied wherever we felt like going. Conditions are not bad - you could certainly use good skis without fear, as nothing is exposed and the cart trails are hard-covered. Pretty fun skating! Classic wouldn't be so good if you depend on deep tracks, since skied-in tracks are no more than 2" deep most places. --"Live to skate, skate to live!".

Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Good snow coverage over the entire course.
It was windy tonight leaving a thin layer of ice on top of about 2-3 inches of snow. You could classic and break through the ice and set a nice track.
