Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, B skis ]
With the current rain and forecast highs in the 40s or 50s for the next ten days, we are suspending our grooming of cross country trails for the season. There is a lot of snow still out there, but it is already getting thin in spots and portions of the golf course will start to thaw very quickly. It will also be very hard on our equipment to try and grind up any slush that refreezes into ice. Even if we get a significant snowfall in the coming weeks we do not intend to groom again this season. In the coming days we will put away all of our equipment for the season and start preparing for golf at all of our courses.

Como was rolled Sunday evening. Result is a skiable but incredibly variable course - a constantly changing mix of undulating / icy / drifted / firm / slow / fast .... Enjoyable as long as you're light on your feet. No classic track yet, but a wide skate lane.

I finished just after 4:30 pm. The groomers were out on a snowmobile starting to groom. I was within 5 minutes of the snowmobile at the end of my ski and was finding some drifting in high-wind areas. As should be expected, skiing in their track was better than breaking track, but still not full corduroy with a track. I did see the snowmobile go around 2 more times pulling a roller but did not ski the rolled trail. I am not sure if they came back to set track or not.

Nothing groomed at 3 PM. Bad drifting everywhere. Classical skiing you had to break trail, skaters had no chance. Left at 4:30 still no grooming. Disappointing.

Conditions at Como are still really good. I skated a couple laps around 11:00am, skate deck is wide and firm. The snow has a few dirty/debris spots, but they are easy to miss. It was windy, but there wasn't drifting since the snow is pretty consolidated at this point. I wouldn't hesitate to use good skis. The classic tracks mostly looked pretty good, they were washed out on some of the hills. Thanks to the groomers for keeping up the late season grooming!

Skied at 5pm, trail was groomed today; classic tracks look good. The skate deck is wide and mostly excellent. Two loops were added back in today - 0.2k on hole 12 that has been out for a few weeks due to some construction, and the 0.3k loop on hole 2 (out all year). Both are bumpy and very soft - the additions won't be much fun until they get packed and smoothed with more grooming.

Skied the course starting at 8pm. It was very windblown and compact. Classic tracks were very shallow and essentially unusable. The past few days of sun and wind had made conditions difficult. Did not appear to have been groomed in at least a few days.

The course is quite wind blown and as such, the classic tracks were almost nonexistent in most places and largely unusable. In the small parts where they were usable the snow to the right of the tracks is still to soft for a good pole plant. The deck is in much better shape though a good grooming will help it quite a bit.

Grooming

Conditions are reported as great at Como. We groomed everything today after a couple of days off. We have had some equipment issues but will try to groom every couple of days while conditions allow.

Skated at Como around 4:00pm today. Conditions were generally good, skate deck had been groomed since the last snow, but was pretty soft and starting to get a little broken up in places. Some ruts were starting to develop on the downhills and corners. Groomers did really good work with all the fresh snow. Another round of grooming to pack it more and it should be fantastic. Classic tracks mostly looked good, though in a few places they were shallow or wallowed out. Lots of folks were out, which was great to see for early March.
