Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 91 to 95 of 95    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Discouragingly, a truck has been driving across the ski trail to work by the pond closest to the parking lot. There appears to have been no attempt to minimize damage to the ski trail, which has now been ruined in more than one place. This is the most skied part of the trail, and includes the lesson area. This is particularly distressing given that all users of the trail are now required to purchase the new Ramsey Cnty/St. Paul ski pass.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
When I got there, a crew was working on a trench between the tunnel and the south pond. It doesn't affect the trails except a tractor going across the ski trail. The trail is in mostly good shape but there certainly is exposed tar, sand (in the sand trap), cattail stalks, grass and drifts. Skip the plateau coming from the back bowl as it's tar and gravel. The wind has scoured west facing and high spots leaving grass and making drifts. That said, you can find some nice stretches worthy of going back and forth on good skis such as the far northwest fairway.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Rolled Como today. Trail is very inconsistent. Lots of bare spots where the wind blew it all away and spots where it drifted 1-2' deep. Trail has inconsistent depth but rolled out descent, although the wind is causing snow to drift over in many spots.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
Definately skiable if selective. Areas shaded by woods being best, even a portion of the downhill area. No grooming, but lots of other skiers' tracks. Started to get sticky as morning progressed. Great to be on snow in our neighborhood in November!

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Caught some of the afternoon light on Sunday. The coverage was okay considering we only got a few inches of snow and just recently have solid cold temps. Skating was surprisingly decent on just citizen tracks, no grooming equipment out yet. Great for a first ski of the year, but definitely rock skis only. Grass poking in a few places and cart paths were questionable.
