New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
With 2-3 inches of new fluffy snow, Bill and Steve tracked and/or groomed Telford, Anchor, Seagull, Jolly Long, Sugarbush Classic, Seagull uphill connector, Sugarbush Lolly Pop, Sugarbush Dog Trail, and Roller Coaster. Bill flat dragged Raven and Deer Path south loop. Conditions are a little soft now but should freeze up overnight and be very good tomorrow. Lots of skiers and skijors using the trails today.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
The base was in good condition but with some scattered debris from winds, and some occasional bumps from snow that had fallen off trees during the brief thaw, then hardened with the cold weather. There was about 1/2 inch of new snow except on Jolly. With the new snow last night after I skied, I bet the trails will be pretty good when groomed.

Night
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Had an excellent ski on Seagull and Anchor. The tracks were a little blown over in some places, and some debris was on the trails. That being said, there was great coverage--not a single bald spot! It was a beautiful night for a ski!

Today we finished grooming Sugarbush Classic, Jolly Long and the Sugarbush Dog Trail. The other classic only trails have been packed, but not tracked so far. The skiing today was very good on the groomed trails.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Thursday night we got another 2-4 inches of new snow. We got Anchor, Seagull, Rollercoaster and Telford fully groomed and tracked. We packed: Sugarbush Classic, Oppedahl's, Birch Hill, Black Bear, Deer Path and Raven. Tomorrow morning we will try to finish grooming and tracking: Jolly Long, Sugarbush Dog Trail and Sugarbush Classic.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We packed, groomed and tracked: Anchor, Jolly Long, Seagull, Seagull Connector, Rollercoaster, Telford, Sugarbush Classic and the Sugarbush Dog Trail. All of it is in good shape, except the start of the dog trail to Jolly got a little torn up as we had some equipment issues. With 6-8 inches of new snow from this last snowfall, the trails that are groomed have good cover and are smoothing out nicely.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
With a few more inches of new snow, we regroomed and tracked the core trails, including: Anchor, Jolly Long, Seagull, Seagull Connector, Rollercoaster, Telford, and Sugarbush Dog Trail. On the skate trails the skate deck is starting to smooth out, still a little lumpy. The tracks set full with just a few thin spots on the skate trails. On Sugarbush Classic it was thin in several places, I raised the track in some places, but saw a bit of dirt in a couple of others I should have raised the track on.

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Lots of K groomed for skating and tracks set too. The trackand skate deck are soft, but they have groomed it a number of times. Groomers were out this morning while we skied. Pretty good coverage everywhere. Well worth it.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Over the last 3 days, we have received anywhere from 6-12 inches of snow. The thinner spots down on Jolly, the higher amounts of snow up on the top of Seagull. With the wind, rain, then snow, it took a lot of time to clear the trails. At this point we have cleared, rolled yesterday and again today, then packed with the ginzu: Anchor, Jolly Long, Seagull, Rollercoaster, Telford, Dog Trail, and Sugarbush Classic to the cabin. Down on Jolly there was one wet spot I saw, and a couple of thin spots, otherwise the trail seems to have decent cover after packing, but is still pretty uneven in places. I would rate it as fair conditions.
