Trail Reports

2014-2015 season
Reports 16 to 25 of 39    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Thin, but mostly good cover for skating. Classic tracks on a portion of the system with variable conditions.
Had a great skate ski outing here on Saturday. The trails are hanging in there. Most of the coverage was good with scattered dirty spots. Some of the off shoot hills were a bit hairy though. The main trails were quite nice with enough loose snow to get an edge. Classic tracks were set a large portion of the tails, but had some washouts and leafy spots. It was well worth the drive from the Twin Cities.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Overall very good conditions: complete snow coverage of the trails with some thin spots, forest litter, and roughly granulated bands left by the tracks of the Track Truck when I was there at 9:00 a.m. All trails were groomed. Fast, firm, sugary snow. Good edge control on 99% of the trails. Classic: The tracks are a week old and there are many stretches with oak leaves in them and I do not know if new tracks were going to be set.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good to very good; no bare spots or ice due to 1" snowfall on Monday. All trails are open and nicely groomed.
Worth the trip from the Twin Cities. 3 K plus trails lit for night skiing. Beautiful chalet equipped with WI-FI.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic

The trail was in surprisingly good shape for our snow conditions. Classic skied the outside loop. Where there was set tracks they were many times too thin to ski on. I mainly skied on the skate deck and had a great time. The skate deck only had a couple areas where it was very thin.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Thinning snow cover, still very skiable. B skis recommended.
Skied 40k today. The trail was pretty fast. The dusting of snow that we received last night really helped. I skipped southern facing hills and going down other steep hills. The gradual downhill to the lower loop is still manageable. The two larger hills are ski-able if going up. Going down this is risky there are a few dirt patches sticking up. The status of the trail system is overall very skiable for so little snow.

Best skiing of the year. 32 degrees, well-groomed, well-packed. Lots of us enjoying the dusk and lighted skiing Thursday night.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Conditions are improving.
The trails get better with every snowfall. Overall things are good but not great. Hills are groomed but watch for dark spots where the snow is a little thin. Almost every hill has this. A track has been set which is shallow in spots.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Better than expected.
We got some snow overnight and it had been groomed by late in the day. A track had been set. Both the track and the skate deck are thin in spots but overall in OK shape. Tower Ridge has oaks so the wind produced some leaf litter. Can you bring your good skis? If you are OK with a little grass then yes, you can. Otherwise no. The only hill I saw groomed was the hill to the I loop, which did look a little dirty. The lighted loop hill was not groomed.
