The city of Superior definitely has its priorities in order. Green and red groomed to perfection less than 12 hours after a major storm that I think dumped more on this side of the bridge. The new snow had ideal moisture content and the skate deck compacted nicely. Skis were flying out there tonight.

I love a city that grooms the trails before the roads are plowed! The road to the yellow trail had deep snow that only a 4 wheel vehicle could easily get through! We ran into the groomer with his new fancy equipment just as he was finishing up his artwork on the trail! The hilly side of the loop was impeccably groomed for skate and the flat side had classic tracks too. This is a mute point now, due to the heavy falling snow, but they will be back out working hard daily to get the trails in super shape for the Stride, Ride, Glide Tri next Sunday!

Skied yellow, green, red, and purple loops this afternoon. Fantastic snow coverage after the last couple snow falls we've had. Also groomer has done excellent. Only a couple small segments not groomed. Classic track was set on most of the trail, the only spot I don't remember seeing it was on the yellow trails on your way out. But yellow trails on the way back was set. No grass or rocks showing at all. Loving all this snow!

After packing and grooming the yellow trail today, our groomer was unable to set track. Weather dependent, this will be completed tomorrow.

The groomer is setting track on the yellow trail today and by end of day, track should be set on all trails. We now have sufficient snow that the blue trail has reopened.

The red and green were tracked and in great condition. Yellow hadn't been groomed yet and the parking lot on 42 not plowed.

Skied just the Red Loop off of 28th. The skate lane had been freshly scratched up and softened. Classic track was rock hard and had some ground showing through here and there. Had to take off my skis and walk across two large patches of open ground under pine trees.

Minus the predictable washouts and predictable thin areas, due to the lack of snow and sun earlier in the week, today was about as good as it can get for skating conditions at Superior. The washouts on the red under the tall pines were not passable while the washouts on both ends of the yellow can be navigated. I started at 28th Street and worked my way through the green to Browns point (yellow) and then on to the purple and back through the green and red trails. The skate deck was mostly ground up frozen snow from the night before which made it fast with good control. The groomer was out on Browns point making a couple loops as I skied. I caught him on my return on Billings Drive and was able to see the new enclosed groomer. I can't say enough about how much grooming Superior gets and the difference it makes. Well done Groomers!
Because of the washouts and thin spots I would not use A skis. The classic tracks were not reset. I'm guessing there isn't enough snow to grind up and reset the tracks.

A beautiful afternoon of skiing today in Superior. Skate deck freshly groomed and in very good to excellent shape. Classic tracks older, but generally good to very good. A few slightly dirty or thin spots, easily avoided. The real gem is Brown's Point (yellow trail): smooth, relatively firm but perfectly textured, and despite days of cold temps, not slow. The Cedar Slip spur and Jonny's cutoff are also groomed (not tracked) and offer gorgeous views of Kimball's Bay and the Duluth skyline. The City of Superior's commitment to regular grooming with quality equipment and caring operators is the key to these great conditions and very much appreciated. Thanks!
