Conditions: Power tilling is a wonderful thing.
No ice. Firm deck, fast trails, and even the sun was out today. It's how skiing is supposed to be. Eh?

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Most trails groomed in excellent condition.
Classic skied with my 13 year old son on Wednesday. First time at ABR, found the many trails on natural snow to be quite fast, even, and enjoyable. The trails were long and had some difficult downhills compared to courses in the Twin Cities. Also skied on the Thursday (just me) and found trails were not regroomed, leading to some crusty edges when on the skate deck, and some washouts (River Trail). Overall fun, but what they call "more difficult" is on par with the most difficult trails here.

Conditions: Perfect temps for skating. We had a half inch of corduroy to skate on. Once again kudos to the grooming crew. Good day to set personal best.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: All trails groomed wide and level for skating with a fresh cut classic track that had set-up perfectly.
I skated on Sunday and was impressed with the volume of snow at ABR and their meticulous grooming. It was nice to get off of the man-made 'glaciers' in the Twin Cities and onto some natural snow. I highly recommend the drive up to ABR from Minneapolis, it's best skiing I've had all winter.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent conditions for both skate and classic.
ABR does an unbelievable job grooming their trails. Our classic tracks today were some of the best we've ever had skiing! Also, what makes ABR a great place is their variety of trails and beautiful scenery. One of our favorites is the Peltonen Pass Out Trail with all of it's wild hills.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Second shift of groomers are just coming in tonight and reporting excellent conditions out on the trails. The Pisten Bully is grooming full width and depth with a 15 inch base. First shift will complete retracking classic only trails and touch up grooming on the 70 km groomed trail system. The snowshoe trail is packed as well.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent. Sounds like a broken record, but it's a "classic track" for both classic and skate.
Great Sisufest weekend in Ironwood. Thanks to the volunteers, snow gods, and great groomers from ABR. All trails at ABR have been regroomed and are in tip-top shape.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Outstanding. Perfect. Spectacular.
Skied the Sisu marathon, classic style. The tracks were cookie cutter perfect and the corduroy looked pretty sweet too. There were no bare spots and very little debris on the ground.

Sisu Ski Fest trail report: Mother nature has provided us with nearly 200 inches of snow and the race course is in great condition. The 2-3 inches of fresh snow from last night have been groomed in, creating an excellent surface for our events. See photos taken today from the last 5 km of the course.
