Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 11 to 20 of 74    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Monday, February 29, 2016
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent. Lots of snow, cold temps (~12 degrees). Great for skating. Wind blown new snow mucked up tracks.
Its still winter at ABR: new snow, typical ABR grooming, sun, and midteen temps made for great skating. With the decrease in wind, striding should be stellar tomorrow.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
We had the groomers out late last night and early this morning resetting tracks and powertilling. We have all 70 km in tip top shape. The skiing should be excellent today despite the warm forecast.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Skiing has been super the last 2 days after the thaw. We have re-groomed all the trails with the Pisten Bully and the renovator and powertiller on the wide trails and multiple passes on the classic only with the Ginzu Groomers. The new snow Sunday groomed in well and the trails are not icy.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: We received a light rain tonight for about 30 minutes. We are not worried about this since we have a very thick base and equipment to groom it. We will be back out in the morning grooming, if the trails get warm they are still skiable since they are packed hard with the the daily grooming. If the trails get rained on, we wait for the correct timing and regroom to make them fun and safe. If the trails are icy we regroom them, sometimes we do not regroom the expert trails until later. It is important to check the conditions in the cabin with attendant to see what is groomed and what trails to ski. If it gets icy we concentrate efforts on the main trails first, just as Hemlock, Jack Pine White Pine and River Trail, Popple, Pit Point with by pass, Memory Lane, Sulos, Blueberry to cut off and Meadow Ridge.
We do not close to save the snow if it gets warm, we will close if conditions are not safe or when the snow melts at the end of March.

Just coming in from second shift grooming with the PB. We received about 12 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. The groomers were out this morning until 10 AM and we groomed 19 trails and 50 K. Another 15 km was groomed tonight and the snow continues. We will be back out in the early morning hours and we will groom throughout the day Tuesday if the snow continues!

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Where can you arrive at 9 am on a Monday morning and find 60 K of freshly groomed trails? ABR in Ironwood. ABR was a classic skiers dream today. Miles of classic only trails groomed to perfection. After finding nothing but icy tracks in the Cable area for two days it was a pleasure to ski ABR today.

Conditions: Firm and fast, exceptional grooming.
The skate deck and classic track were freshly groomed. The skate deck was firm, new corduroy with nice grip. The sun was out in a cloudless sky and the skating was fast and fun.
