Excellent spring skiing today. Some skiers even remembered to wear green! Awesome glide and grip with skin skis. Since it was warm today but will freeze tonight, the groomers are going to drag and reset tracks Sunday morning. Trails should hold up well all week.

Wow! The excellent skiing goes on and on. It's even better now with daylight savings time. The photos say it all: perfectly groomed trails in the bright sunshine, after 6 PM! It's too bad the weekend will be warmer but looks like next week will still be great for skiing in the Keweenaw.

Absolutely awesome skiing! The weather man said we'd only get a skiff of snow overnight, but turns out we got 3-4 inches and it groomed up great. Super glide and great grip, bright sun, light breeze, 20 degrees....The best of February in March!

We encountered the groomer on the trail, he apologized(!) that he wouldn't be able to groom the whole system today. It looked like he got the big loop and probably points south done. Loop 10 had 2 inches of fluff on a groomed and tracked base. All pleasant and fun. Over several hours we saw only 1 group of 4 skiers, 1 solo skier, and 1 biker.

Great day skiing Maasto Hiihto-Churning Rapids for the first time. Lovely classic only trails in a beautiful gorge and forest with bonus views of the Portage Canal and Lake Superior from the observation deck. Excellent grooming, and good kick with VR40 on the dusting of fresh snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Early this morning, all trails were drug and new tracks made and we are largely back to excellent conditions. Exception is ironically, at the chalet where it's more exposed to sun and wind. As soon as you get into the woods, its excellent again. For our phat members, trails will be firm.

Spring conditions have been excellent at Maasto. On Saturday I was able to ski from mid to late morning while glide was still zippy; skin skis were the bomb. The ski club's annual Glide N Gorge was in the afternoon, which I've included photos of. Today we didn't ski until this afternoon so the trails were softer and slower but still in great shape. Grooming will resume this week after it snows again.

Well groomed, soft with temperature in the 40s; however, glide was decent and good grip on the hills!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The 6" of high density snow we received overnight worked in reasonably well this morning with the roller. We call everything Excellent but with all this wind today, open areas will be blown in. Trails are fairly soft yet, phat bikers may find it tough going. Monday all trails will be re-groomed in the morning.

These classic trails are not to be missed. Even with some freezing mist, the freshly groomed tracks were lovely and the new snow made the river trail a total winter wonderland. The UP really does snow.
