Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Skijored the multi-use trail today. It was absolutely perfect. Fresh corduroy, no bare spots, no icy spots. This was the best skiing I've had so far this year.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skated Ironwood and Lake and the short easy loop. All with great coverage, a small amount of leaf debris but not bad. Overall good to very good condition. Classic tracks also looked good. Did not try the Lower Ironwood extension due to the Three Rivers report that it was in poor condition.

Very good conditions in the tracks tonight and not very many people out there. Kudos to the groomers for turning things around after the big thaw.

Cold and a bit slow using Polar Kick wax but good ski conditions on freshly groomed trails. The Ironwood trail was in very good shape with just a few stalks sticking up in the low marsh areas.

Conditions are excellent at Cleary for both skating and classic. The trail was being groomed at 9:30 this morning, but even beforehand the skate deck was flat and uniform across its width. The track was in fine shape also.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Good snow on all the trails except the Lower Ironwood trail. Lower Ironwood had a stretch after the swamp area with minimal snow coverage where the groomer mixed in a lot of debris. The dusting of fresh snow this morning was helping to cover up the leaves that are mixed into the base. If you skip the Lower Ironwood trail there shouldn't be anything that would damage your skis.

Afternoon

Skijored the multi-use trail at Cleary. It was in a lot better shape than I expected after the recent warm weather. There few a few spots that didn't have enough snow to cover the ice but most of the trail was in good shape. It's been rolled but did not have classic tracks set.

The skate lane (of all trails) at Cleary has been groomed and is in decent shape. It's still a little rutted and not super flat and uniform across the width, but the surface is very skiable; it's easy to get an edge. The track has not been touched since the thaw and is quite icy throughout.

Actually, I did start skating, and after about 50 feet, realized I couldn't handle icy, rutted, etc. (see earlier reports, which unfortunately I did not). It pays to call ahead! I then drove up to Hyland, even calling ahead to be sure it had been groomed, which of course it had. My appreciation of the snow-making loops has increased.

Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The Cleary trails were not groomed today and the supervisor told me they won't be until Sunday morning. Apparently the groomers made an attempt that was unsuccessful. I skied and found the skate deck is deeply rutted and frozen - basically unskiable. The track is very icy also. Not sure why it was impossible to till this but that was their determination.
