Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 16 to 25 of 28    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Trails are in fair to poor condition. The trails that have been groomed are very ski-able with some very icy spots. Some sections are not ski-able due to icy conditions. We did not ski red pine or last thrill because of ice. The 3rd inner loop after Tower Rd is also pretty dicey in spots. We did take our skis off and walk down a hill on the far west of the trail. All that being said, we had a lot of fun skiing. The groomers did a great job making a very icy trail usable.

Trail conditions are poor with lots of ice and wet spots and some bare ground. Our 700 meter man made snow loop is in very good condition.

Skating: fast and occasionally icy but bad spots are avoidable. Some organic debris but no dirt showing. Skating lane was rolled, but watch out for ice chunks and ice rinks in low spots where puddles had formed. Classic tracks are a mess: ice and dirt and leaves, except for the manmade loop.

From Portage County Website: Standing Rocks Park ski trails will not be groomed today because they are too wet from the rain. The man made snow loop will be groomed and a track will be set.

Skied all of the trail from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Surprised at how good the trails are considering the weather we have had. Most of the trail is in good to fair condition with a few areas where you need to be careful.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trails are packed. Skate lanes are in overall fair condition. Track was set on most trails and is in fair to poor condition (thin with debris). We have a 700-750 meter loop with man made snow in very good condition with a track set.

Had an inch of snow overnight and trails were rolled. Still thin, a bit of dirt showing in a few spots, and Red Pine Run and Teddy Bear are not open. Only the 0.7k man-made snow loop has been tracked but there are skiers training on it.

Drove up to Plover to try and get in some skate skiing. They have backed down the 6" of snow they have gotten and the deck is firm with few ruts. With a 1/2" of snow on top I could not see exactly what I was going over besides dusted over leaves but I did not hit rocks. For a 10 degree afternoon I got fairly good glide. Overall good skiing so I would not hesitate to go there and use your rock or B skis.

Very thin base, lots of debris on trails, tracks not set. Skied the green, (easy) 3Km loop, cold temperatures kept the leaves from sticking to my kick wax. The short loop of man-made snow was very good, but very short.
